Please all contractors avoid engaging in business with Sutton United Football Club at all costs.
My catering company entered into an agreement with representatives from Sutton United in August. We issued an invoice that was due on the 15th of September and have subsequently been chasing for payment ever since. We have regularly invoiced them over the past 12 months with no issues however after 1/2 way through our regular agreement they are refusing to pay and deliberately avoiding communications..
After some time of chasing director Phil Letts called with an apology, a promise to pay and but explained that they have no money to pay just now. We accepted this in good faith however promises to return calls and emails were not adhered to.
Phil Letts eventually called and offered a payment plan that i accepted but was never honoured. It became apparent that this was not an isolated incident but actually their business model and there intentions were to delay for as long as possible
My company has now taken legal action through the county court and as a result we have experienced additional costs, staff walkouts, suppliers suspending accounts and personal hardships. I strongly advise that business do not engage in business with them. Every step of the way they have looked for deliberate ways not to pay but were happy to take the product request and provided.
My business is now sadly due to close as we can no longer wether the lasting impact of there business practices. We have lost in the region of £20,000.00 after paying out for staff, supplies and providing the meals. The matter is ongoing but for now we are actively pursuing them in the courts, with the FA regulatory bodies and in public.
