Never buy a mattress from this place

Never buy a mattress from this place. Poor quality, untrained sales associates, and unconcerned management, at least at the Glen Burnie store. Mattress sunk in the middle in a year and a half. You be better off going to a store that specializes in mattresses. Better quality and more knowledge staff. Also better warranty.

Poor after sales service

I bought 2, 2 seater Eastbourne suits in July 2016. One seat of one chair has lost its firmness. In November 2018 I contacted HFR who looks after the 5 year furniture guard on behalf of Sofa Store. HFR technician called and within 5 minutes left. After chasing the claim HFR stated that it was not covered under the policy as its loss is within 30% of tolerance. I was then referred to U K General insurance
who concluded HFR decision was incorrect as we would not expect to see wear and tear to a sofa of the age and quality of your own.
But because of very small print in there terms and conditions it gets them out of doing anything.
Sofa Store do not want to do anything so at the moment my credit card company is trying to find a solution for me. This is under the sales of goods act either 1979 or 2015 ( the goods should be fit for purpose ).

Beware!!! Check other stores

I hardly ever write a review. but, I had a very frustrating experience at store. We purchased a recliner from sofa store thinking that we will get a good quality. After 1 month the color of the recliner started rubbing off. We talked to the manager at sofa store and she said that she could not help us and our sofa might not be kept at proper place because of which the color is rubbing off from the corners. We accepted that although we knew that was not the case. After 15 days we saw color rubbing off from the headrest. Sofa store people said that might be a chemical in your head which is changing color. My point is that they will have excuse for everything and they will never help you to get your recliner serviced or exchanged. They will not be helpful once the purchase is made. Please think twice before buying a recliner from that store. Buying an item from a clearance would be a bad option.

Unsafe and Poor product longevity

I bought a sofa from the sofastore that had detachable arm rests a few years ago for £999. However the the arm rests are now completely coming apart. Not only that but anyone leaning on it can quite easily fall off because the fastener isn't robust enough making it unsafe. I mentioned the safety issue to sofastore a while back but not had any progress on it.
I have another sofa from another store which has remained in fantastic condition for over a decade.

Sofa was supplied damaged

Sofa was supplied damaged. Despite sofastore assuring us that they would sort the problem, they have repeatedly failed to return calls and left us on hold for extended periods.

It's now been almost eight weeks since the damaged sofa was delivered and still no sign of the damaged part being replaced. However, we did get a £33 phone bill from calling customer services (no mention of call costs in the email with the number). We did get this refunded after making a fuss, but it hasn't helped with getting the sofa fixed.

Lovely Dorchester set from Sofa Store

We took a lot of time to decide on which sofa company to use, and eventually found the Dorchester set from Sofa Store. We visited 2 stores (Salisbury and Yeovil) and the sales teams in both stores were unobtrusive and informative. Eventually we ordered over the phone (we tried online but we couldn’t add our ‘free gift’ to the order, which you get if you spend over £1k!). The process was easy and the delivery estimate was set for 2 months later. We were kept informed all the way through the process and a date was finally set a few weeks before delivery with plenty of suitable dates to choose from. On delivery day, we were called 30mins before the team arrived and the sofa’s delivered to our living room. Yes, they are packaged up well and you need to unpack and dispose of this yourself but we knew that already and it was of no issue at all. 2 black bags of packing material and cardboard for recycling. Easy!

We have had the sofa’s a good few weeks now and they are of excellent quality, build, and they look great. Overall, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Sofa Store, or the Dorchester sofa set …… and don’t forget to get your free gift. I’m sure our massive Oak Mirror will look fab in its new home once we have decorated!

Don't sit on your sofa - it's only to look at

Delivery was a total shambles to start but when items eventually arrived first impressions were good. 10 months later leather on one chair is flaking off. Phoned after sales team who arranged for a "professional " to come and inspect. Took him 20 mins & a very blasé attitude to put a hairdryer on the area and he rubbed the leather making it worse and told me it was natural human body oil reacting with the leather and that it would continue peeling. We did not buy the care package on this expensive purchase as we had previously had a leather suite for 10 years with no problem at all & it's being used still by our daughter. There are only 2 adults in the house who both work all day, use seating in conservatory frequently so the suite has very light use. However sofa store insist that we have not maintained the suite using THEIR cleaning product and so will not accept responsibilty for this. So why don't they warn people not to use their suite just look at it. We adequately maintained our previous leather suite with no problems so what makes sofa store leather so different & shouldn't they warn people that if they actually sit on the chairs they will not last.

Corner sofa

Delivery of sofa taken on 30th sept a brown Clarence corner sofa right hand. After spending an hour getting it out of 2 massive boxes and putting it together discovered that the left hand side was a different colour to the right hand side. A week later after sending photo's and customer services telling me that the batch numbers were different on my delivery which is why they are different colours, they have told me that they are looking in the ware house for the matching side !!! I will send an update next Friday.

Substandard sofa and refusal to remedy problem

We bought a sofa from here - ex display so it was reduced and, we assumed after all the customer sittings, that it was worn in. However, deterioration continued after purchase... (surely a sofa is made for sitting on?)

We discovered that the cushions were of inferior quality – we even began to wonder if the sofa had been made to a lower spec due to the fact that it was to be used as a display item. We persevered with the sofa as we didn’t feel the salesman was particularly helpful after we had handed over the money. We fluffed the cushions, rotated them, and repeatedly dropped each cushion on the corners as advised. None of which made any difference. It got to the point where we needed to add foam so that the back cushions would not disappear behind us. The seat cushions, we discovered had no foam at the outer front edges and as a result the fibre squished down so that you could feel the frame through the cushion behind your knees. Great, our lovely little purchase turned out to be an uncomfortable nightmare that we both avoided sitting on as it was so uncomfortable.

We made contact with customer services but sadly no resolution could be reached. Firstly we were informed that a warranty was only issued for 12 months after manufacture (no matter when you buy the sofa - so if you buy 13 months after manufacture tough luck). Although this statement was later retracted and we were informed it came with no warranty as it was ex display. Interestingly, trading standards have informed us that this is not acceptable. Under the Sales and Goods Act of 1979 (as amended) goods should be of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose. Furthermore, What Consumer says: “Retailers may also try to tell you that there is nothing they can do because you are outside your warranty period, or because you don’t have one. A warranty is irrelevant where quality and durability are concerned, and you have the right to a remedy under Sale of Goods.”
Quality and durability in the above quote are the key words to keep in mind here. Our sofa is neither of these.

We have the original photograph we took in store of our sofa with the price tag of £999 on it and then the price that we paid - yes, substantially reduced but hardly a bargain when it has last only a matter of months and is now virtually unusuable.

After contacting Jason Bannister a further phone call was received saying that the sofa should be plumped three times a day! THREE TIMES a day! We cannot believe they think this is acceptable. Never mind the fact that this does not even address the issues we have with the sofa. Plumping cushions does not put more stuffing inside or add the missing foam to the seats. This is essentially an admission of fault from them that this is in fact a sub standard sofa.
The other comment they made was that we got it cheap. So, in as many words, they don't care about it because we did not pay full price. This of course is not how honest traders respond to problems.

We are now involved with Trading Standards over this. And I'm sad to say that as we could no longer sit on it we have had to order a new sofa - from a reputable retailer!

Buyer Beware
