They have an unparalleled layered verification system and confirmed who I was. In a world moving in haste, they made it their business to protect my interests. I never received my debit card in the mail and someone committed fraud with it. I actually called them 3 days before the fraud appeared on my account to tell them I never got it and they told me they couldn't do anything until a certain date which was the same date that all the fraud transactions occurred on my account. One United Bank refused to refund the full amount even after multiple calls and now I have had to file the case with the NYS Department of Financial Services and send them a certified letter to anyone to bother to look further into it.
Plus they contract out their fraud services and these people don't even have their business straight because I've gotten three different claim numbers one of which was never on any of the documentation that I received or given to me during any of my calls.

I have not had a pleasant experience since joining this bank almost a year ago. The customer service is nonexistent. This has only been my third time reaching out. I feel as though this bank is better for middle to high earners that have flexibility when it comes to money. If you are on the lower end of the spectrum I would not suggest this bank black owned or not.
I appreciate your response but if I felt I was treated with respect or dignity. I would not have taken my time to write a review. I’m sure there are those with pleasant experiences, mine however was not.

Had an account with them, but let me start at the beginning. First of all, they make it extremely hard to deposit money. I was told to go to either Walgreens or CVS to make a deposit because there are no branches near me. So the ATM that takes deposits doesn't! Then they say you can make deposits at the register. You can, but it costs you $5 for every $500 you deposit. This has to be a joke! So the next issue, they allow you to add an external bank to transfer funds into your account, another joke! So I set up my other account to transfer funds into the account. The first one goes well with no problems. The second transfer I initiate was something totally different. I get an email saying that the transfer was stopped by my other bank. I call my other bank and they say that it wasn't them that stopped the transfer, so I call OneUnited. One United tells me that they will send me an email so that I can verify my external account, so I say no problem. I never got that email. The email that I did get was an email saying that my account was being closed for deposit fraud. Deposit fraud? I call and tell the customer service representative that I have all the proof that the account belongs to me and guess what she says? "I'm sorry, sir, but your account is being closed so get all your money out of our bank before 4/28/25." Seriously? I tried supporting my own and look what it got me! Makes no sense when all they had to do was verify my account. After reading all the other horror stories associated with this bank, I'd advise anyone considering joining to steer clear!

I have been a OneUnited customer since 2020 for the sake of supporting a Black owned bank. I was excited to move away from the big banks such as Wells Fargo and Bank of America. Things started off great. I enjoy getting paid 2 days early. However this is my 3rd time out of the country and each time I have had difficulty accessing my money or using my card. This is a horrible feeling traveling abroad as a single woman and not having access to necessary funds. I have called customer service multiple times, included my travel plans in the app and still NO ACCESS to money. When I call they tell me I have to wait 24-48 hours. Or I can’t get anyone on the phone at all. For this reason alone, when I get back to the states I will be closing this account and opening one with my local credit union. I am saddened by this decision but as a person who frequently travels I do not feel safe or supported with this bank.
