I have first class service two years running

I ordered alstroemerias last from Hyde’s last year and was happy with my purchase. I ordered 3 times this year and am pleased with this year’s alstroemerias . There was a slight delay on two of the orders due to the conditions of the weather earlier in the year , which was understandable as most people had experienced the Same problem . I was kept informed and was happy to wait for my plants. I have given 5 stars as I can’t find any fault with both year’s service I received from them.many thanks. Linda .

Bulbs did not grow

I purchased allium bulbs in September last year for £49.20. I purchased 60 allium white cloud which grew but did not produce flowers. I also purchased 30 atropurpureum of which only 11 grew and flowered.
I purchased 5 red mohicans of which all flowered.
The white alliums were for 2 relatively new beds bordered on all sides by new 2 year old buxus shrubs. I had a good show of 2 types of purple alliums early in May which were followed by allium drumsticks and were then supposed to be followed by the white cloud. Now I have 2 sad empty beds because the white alliums did not flower.

When I contacted HW Hyde (with photos) I received a very short reply:
Hi,
from the pictures, it is very dry.
We have seen alliums seriously suffering in the extreme weather this year.

Our control samples flowered well,
Kind regards,
Sarah

When I replied to let her know the beds were not dry they are watered well, have a bark mulch and pointed out the new fresh green growth on all the buxus shrubs and assured her we have plentiful supply of underground stored water they did not respond.

I then sent a third email and they have not responded.

I did some research and it seems the cause of alliums not flowering is because the bulb is not mature enough to flower. This is relevant because I received the bulbs in a small brown paper bag and at the time I could not believe the bag contained 60 bulbs so I counted them. Apart from drumsticks they were the smallest allium bulbs I have ever planted. I don’t have any for comparison but they took up less than half the space of the brown paper bag, they were very small so I can only assume Hyde supplied me with immature bulbs and this was the reason for them failing to flower.

It is particularly annoying to have spent that amount of money with nothing to show in 2 beds, and very little in the other. I purchased from Hyde because they were one of very few companies selling the white cloud. If I had researched them and read their reviews I would not have purchased from them. It is more annoying because this year I can see that Hyde are very expensive compared to other places not just for the white cloud but for all the bulbs I bought.

It has been upsetting having 2 mostly bare beds in the middle of summer when I am in the garden every day.

If the photo has uploaded I mostly have what is shown on the left and about 7 on the right.

What I ordered wasn't grown or sent and I wasn't informed.

I ordered about £25 worth of dahlia cuttings from HWHyde well in advance. In April I enquired when the cuttings would be delivered: 'Next month' they said, ie.May. But 3 months passed, well into July (when dahlias are starting to flower) I heard nothing from Hyde's until I contacted them. 'Oh sorry we haven't got any of those now.' When I asked why not, they explained that the young dahlias' roots hadn't developed. They could have told me!! in May when they discovered the probem, but they didn't. I could have planted dahlias or something else from another supplier if I'd know there was a problem with my order. But I was just waiting optimistically. with an empty flower-bed. They just ignored the order and forgot about refunding me. Sounds like sloppy office work or a cash-flow problem in addition to the horticultural one. They sent me a full refund 3 days later, 2 months after the expected order-completion time. To give them some credit though, the previous year they delivered the goods on time and the plants grew well. Their website boasts a wonderful variety at a reasonable price.

Poor

Ordered in January and was expecting delivery from mid March. My order arrived 23June - and not even all of it turned up. Plants were tiny cuttings/ shooting tubers and not up the standard Hyde have produced in previous years.

I am starting to get nervous

I have ordered from this company twice before and all went well. This year something seems to be wrong. When my dahlia rooted cuttings did not arrive, I contacted and was told that some of the varieties had had a crop failure. I said I would accept a refund for these and wait for the rest. It is now 6 June and the rest have not arrived. I contacted by email but so far no response. I am starting to get a bit nervous.

I had quite a large order in 2019 and still wating for resplcement for errors

I had quite a large order in 2019. Many of the delivered plants were in ordered colors (right name on parcels), but it was other colors inside. Something that is not detectable before growth. The company agreed to resend one wrong product but not the rest. I have now been waiting for more than a year on the replacement plants, versus excuses for not shipping, latest the virus. I have had no problem what so ever to receive parcels from any country under the virus, but some companies rise to the location and opt their game, others use it as an excuse for the opposite and fail to deliver.
