Bad experience

I booked what I thought was glamping but within an hour after booking I realised it was camping and no beds were provided. I canceled immediately and Hipcamp still collected 41.50 from me. The reservation was over 3 weeks away. When I made the reservation the site told me I would not be charged yet. I was charged and will let everyone know my experience.

Hi Gail-Anne,

Thanks for sharing this experience with us and with the broader Hipcamp community!

It sounds like you booked a Request To Book listing. When you submit a Request To Book, we don't charge your card immediately: we place a hold on your card, and only capture it/make the charge when the Host accepts your booking request. If the Host declines your request, or the request expires (after 24 hours), the hold is released and no charge is made to your card.

If you need further assistance regarding this booking, please feel free to contact our Support team via https://hipca.mp/support

I booked a campsite

I booked a campsite, and hipcamps app didn't even notify the host of my booking. Horrible app, lousy customer service. I hate it. 🤬

Don't book with Hipcamp unless you like spam

Don't book with Hipcamp. They are spammers.
In light of the business's reply to my previous review insinuating I'm some kind of idiot who is unable to set his marketing preferences, here are the email subjects of the emails they will send, even when you opt out of marketing emails:
"Enhance your trip with extras"
"Your trip is coming up! Here's who's onboard."
"Reminder for your trip to Grass Pitch"
"Time to pack your bags!"
Seriously, stop spamming me

Camping trip cancelled with 2 weeks…

Camping trip cancelled with 2 weeks notice by host - but this was because the HipCamp calendar didn't synch up, so they were double booked. I contacted Hipcamp, and after 2 weeks still haven't heard back from them. The host was very apologestic when I contacted them directly, but the error was Hipcamp's fault. I've also not had a refund through, and have had to ask the host to chase Hipcamp up.

Great platform but App not available

Great platform, easy to use. But as a tourist or foreigner you can't download the app, which seems to be necessary to some extent (what they tell you after you booked). Why don't you offer the app in appstores worldwide?

Hi Jana,

Thanks for sharing this feedback with us and with the broader Hipcamp community! We are working on bringing Hipcamp to app stores globally, but rest assured it is not necessary to have/have access to the app in order to use the platform. If the app is not currently available on your device, simply use the Hipcamp website on your mobile browser instead. This will ensure you are able to view your trip details and arrival instructions, communicate with your Host, leave reviews, and make future bookings.

HipCamp not so Hip

HipCamp charges exorbitant fees to hipcampers -close to 20% and that is on top of the 10% that is charged to the Host. If you decide to change your dates, even within the Host cancellation policy guidelines, you will be charged even more. On a $455.40 bill , we were charged $208.79 in fees by HipCamp because we changed the dates. That is almost 50% of our bill. I followed up but only received canned responses from their customer support center which took days to get back to me. We will never book with them again. Buyer beware. If you look them up on BBB they are not accredited and received an F rating with many complaints.

Hi Pam,

Thanks for sharing this feedback with us, and with the broader Hipcamp community!

Hipcamper Service Fees vary, and are displayed at each step of the booking process prior to placing a booking so campers are always aware of the exact fee that will be charged before they make a booking and are charged.

Modification Fees are charged in line with a Host's Cancellation Policy; if dates are modified before the Host's Cancellation Policy comes into effect, there is no charge to modify dates. Modification fees, like the Service Fee, are shown clearly to campers before choosing to proceed with making any modification.

Hosts have complete discretion over whether they wish to waive or refund modification fees (as the fee is paid out to the Host, not retained by Hipcamp); requests for refunds of the fee can be submitted to the Host, however the Host is under no obligation to refund fees that are charged in accordance with their Cancellation Policy. You can learn more about modification fees, and when they will be charged, in this FAQ: https://support.hipcamp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360025120511-How-do-I-change-the-dates-of-my-booking

I hope this helps! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to our Support Team.

high fees for cancelling won't use again

bought a place for the weekend for 80$ on saturday night, turns out it's going to snow so i canceled it a week ahead on sunday morning just a few hours after purchase.

after canceling it, i'm refunded 65$ instead of 80$. their app took 15$ for just booking and canceling a trip. about 1/5 of the price of the entire purchase just for a cancellation fee. what a joke.

Hi,

Thanks for sharing this feedback with us and with the broader Hipcamp community.

As is noted on our FAQ regarding cancellation policies; on the cancellation policy displayed during checkout; and in the booking terms displayed prior to submitting a booking or booking request: cancellations are refunded in accordance with the Host's cancellation policy, minus the Hipcamp Service Fee. All campers view and agree to these terms prior to making a booking. The exception to this is when a Host initiates a cancellation, in which the camper is eligible for a full refund including the Hipcamp Service Fee. If your Host initiated this cancellation, please reach out to our Support team for further assistance!

Love HIPCAMP, easy to use!

We have found lots of awesome places to visit in our RV, by using Hipcamp! The reservation & booking process is easy, and this app is user friendly! We appreciate the detailed information that is summarized, on each location or campsite we choose. The payment & billing process has always been correct, itemized, and easy to refer back to if needed. Having the ability to connect with the host, or facility, through Hipcamp, is also a bonus!
