Look when people call in to make a payment. The last thing they wanna hear is some automated person tell them we can send a link to your phone look it is 2025. We are not stupid. We do not need anyone to send us a link to our phone because we know we can go onto energy.com and probably pay it. It’s common sense at this point so you guys make us go through all that bullshit just to have this automated guy never have a clue of what our answer is when we say no thank you that means piss off Right I’m there to pay my bill. Do you understand how many times I’ve had to hang up because this keeps wanting to send me a text and I have to keep recalling back because I can’t get past that part. It’s ridiculous. We call in to make the payment we don’t call in to get a damn link sent to our Phone. I mean, get a clue people.

SORRY A** COMPANY

PAID 6+ year old balance directly to Duke Energy and not to the collections Agency (which I should have gone to the agency and paid a cheaper price). Called 800-544-6900 on 6/23/25 & spoke to Silah (foreign - couldn't understand much of what he was saying), he advised there was an outstanding balance. Ok, no problem, I will pay it.
6/24/25 9:14am-I called 800-544-6900 & paid the balance by cc with Dineria (very helpful). After paying, I received a confirmation #...ok cool. Rep advised that once payment is made a confirmation email will be sent.
6/24/25 11:42am - called 800-544-6900...spoke to Pearla...she advised payment is pending. she advised that once payment has cleared my bank a confirmation email will be sent to the email address on file. Gave 2 emails, she confirmed both. again, ok cool.
HERE'S WHER IT GOES LEFT!!!
6/27/25 9:33am - rep...Issa confirmed payment was made, paid and received at Duke Energy. I asked Issa for an email or letter stating payment made. I let her know I have not received the confirmation email. She was not able to help me. I asked to speak to her Supervisor.
Supervisor Erica - said that she's not able to send anything stating paid. THIS IS WHERE I WENT OFF. After paying my $$ you can't send me nothing!! I asked to speak to Erica's boss...
Boss Lady - Sharita (manager) - pretty much advised the same thing...I said, you're the manager you can't give me a letter or send me an email stating the balance is paid in full. A lot of exchange went back and forth. long story short...."no". I told her to put herself in my shoes. You paid YOUR MONEY and the company tells you they can't give you a receipt, email or letter stating "paid"? AT THIS POINT I'M PISSED...i just hung up.
i CALLED BACK this time a different # 800-777-9898 & spoke to Francis(male) - he was very pleasant and tried his best to help me. He then transferred me to his supervisor Joanna - Joanna was nice enough to explain that their systems have been updated and due to the age of the account, she will have to forward to the accounting department to send a paid in full email/letter. She confirmed my email and let me know that I will receive something in 3 business days. Which is wayyyyyyy more than what Erica & Sharita offered. Sorry to say but I can tell that Daniria(which helped me and was pleasant), Erica & Sharita were african american. They had no sympathy & no other resolution no nothing. Now, I waiting on the 3 days to see what happens. TRUST ME I WILL FOLLOW UP!!

Don’t believe any positive reviews

I’m willing to go out on a limb and assume all 5 star reviews are by people within the company. This company is terrible. In terms of price, promptness of service, service itself, communication, etc. ,this company is the worst I’ve dealt with by each standard. Avoid if you can because they are terrible. I’m currently without power right now under duke from a rain storm 24 hours ago now.

Worst power company I've ever had the…

Worst power company I've ever had the misfortune of being stuck with due to monopolies. Power goes out every few days while the rates consistently climb under the guise of "better infrastructure". when I lived in the north during the frigid months of blizzards and iced power lines I had less power outages. The power just surged off for a moment, two days ago it did as well, a few days before that it did, tonight's outage was when the weather is 79⁰, no wind nor rain, perfect weather and they can't keep power consistent but they were prompt to raise my bill $50. If you are not locked into a monopoly area go elsewhere for a power company as duke only cares about your money. A side note that I personally feel is more then coincidence is that when duke inevitably had power outages the power would just immediately go off, then they rolled out their appliance insurance, just after that rolled out nearly all power outages via duke are several power surges then power outage. There's a reason they have under 2 star reviews everywhere, but they could care less, your locked into their monopoly and you pay or have no service, which is why monopolies used to be illegal. Avoid them if you can.

Positive Duke Energy Service

Dante came to my home to evaluate my home’s energy usage. My main concern was my duct work. A few of my friends and I have recently had our air conditioning units maintained. Each of us has had the ac technician suggest that our duct work should be replaced. My estimate was $7000 and others were $10000. Duke Energy offers the evaluation service free. Dante checked my duct work and told me it is fine. Many people have issues with Duke Energy but I feel people should read the good they do as well. I saved $7000 and will be cautious the next time my ac unit is maintained.

DUKE ENERGY IS PREDATORY

BEWARE
I lived on the north side of Indianapolis and had Duke Energy in my home. I had no choice; it's the only utilities provider available. After living there for three years, my job transferred me and, so, I had to close my account. I paid the bill for my last month of service and thought that was it. A week later, Duke Energy sent me a bill for nearly eight times what I usually paid. They said because I terminated services, I had to pay for the remainder of the year - by the end of the current month. My monthly bills were around $140, and now I had three weeks to pay $870. Their representative, Alex, blamed the "system." For some people, this amount is pocket change; for me, it's impossible to get on short notice. If you're like me, think twice about residing at a property with Duke Energy as the utilities provider.

DUKE ENERGY Deception

MUST READ………. beware of what may happen to you. This is an informative comment based on my experience and want people to know so they can make the best decision. After being with the A/C and heating plan with Duke Energy since 2021 and invested in the plan (not the only one I enrolled in at the time) thinking I had a piece of mind being that I live in Central Florida and it gets hot, the other day my A/C went out. They immediately denied the claim and after a struggle with a supervisor he approved a leak detection (Duke Energy cost of $260). After finding out that the leak was in the coil inside air handler the repair was immediately denied. Again, speaking to the supervisor with even a greater struggle I was told that I did not have a professional maintenance plan, and it was my neglect. Furthermore, he expressed that I did not have the right plan which when I enrolled at the time there was only one. He went on to say that they are a business, and they need to make money with no empathy or consideration to how long I have been with the protection plan. Ever feel like talking to an insurance company where they will do anything NOT to pay a claim and put the burden on you, well this is the same feeling. Duke Energy Monopolizes on A/C units under 10 years where they process a claim with the manufacturer pretending that the plan you enrolled in with them was beneficial. But if you’re A/C unit is over 10 years old THIS IS A SCAM, and I strongly do not recommend. Hope this helps you in understanding the DUKE ENERGY deception.

...."Duke Energy"....A parasite utility company that bribes state employees!

....."Duke Energy".....A nefarious American multi-state utility-corporation based in Charlotte, North Carolina.
...I used Duke Energy for about 11 years, as they service some of northern Indiana.... and I was on the EZ read program for customers who wanted to opt out of having a "smart meter" installed on their property.
.....That being said, Duke Energy is always looking for ways to scam paying customers, so it does not surprise me they are now ending the "EZ read" program.......to try once again to extort more money from customers who are already forced to pay very high rates for electricity..... as most unregulated criminal utility companies do every day in America.
...."Duke Energy" is another Zio-corporation that rakes in about 8 billion a year from squeezing every dime they could from customers with the help of the criminal "state government" employees that receive eternal never ending cash bribes!
....Electricity costs nothing to create and very little to maintain the electrical infrastructure.......so, I hope people can understand how much money "Duke Energy" is stealing from customers!

Pressure to accept a smart meter?

We received a phone call from Duke to let us know that they would be discontinuing the program that allows individuals to read their own meters and that customers have just 2 options: pay a monthly fee (> $17) to have a meter reader come out or to have a smart meter installed. It feels like coercion to get customers to accept the smart meter. It would be helpful to be able to 'crunch the numbers' to see whether it is worth it to pay to have someone come to read the meter. From reports I've heard and read, it sounds like having the smart meter increases the monthly bill and in some cases that might just be over $17 a month. And, on top of that, our local regulatory commission has also approved for Duke to raise the basic rates, too.

Wish I could give them less than a 1…

Wish I could give them less than a 1 star. We accidently short paid our bill. The amount short paid was just 10% of the whole bill. When I got the notice by mail I immediately made an online payment through my bank. Payment was already showing pending and most likely was already in their account but they forced us to pay again by credit card and then charged us an extra $8 to pay it or they would cut our power that day. First time we have ever been late and it wasn't even for the full amount of the bill. Too bad they have a monopoly or we would switch our service.

My bill doubled in the span of 30 days

My bill doubled in the span of 30 days! It seems you all charge people AT WILL for sevices they have expended. Why? Because you can and your customer service personnel are idiots! WHAT A RIP OFF!!! YOU PRESENT YOURSELF AS A COMPANY THAT CARES; THE ONLY THING YOU CARE ABOUT IS BOTTOM LINE AND THE BONUSES YOU GIVE YOURSELF AT THE EXPENSE OF THE CONSUMER!

Absolutely horrible company

Constantly trying to reopen an account that was CLOSED. I have spent countless hours dealing with every level of their customer service and they refuse to stop harrassing me by trying to reopen an account that was washed away in a hurricane, without my authorization in MY NAME. They even went as far as to charge my account information that was supposed to be no longer an option for them for a property I don't even live at. They have repeatedly told me this was taken care of only to continually attempt to use my information falsely to reopen the account. HORRIBLE COMPANY that is clearly incompetent.

Duke power needs complete overhaul disgusting monopoly

Duke power shut off power without prior notice for an “upgrade’ it was off for 6 hours. I was not able to get car out of garage, missed an appointment and unable to work from home without internet. Lost day of wages and inconvenienced. There are only 4 houses on my street and when I spoke with foreman, he said they do not have to give notice if less than 10 homes are affected except doorbell ring right before power is cut. This is unacceptable and bad policy.
I spoke with 2 people at customer service and a supervisor that all did not care and offered no assistance or compensation, or even sympathy/empathy. If there was an alternative power company, I would be calling right now. This is the problem with monopolies, they simply could care less. Shame on you Duke Power… you should treat people better than this and you should make sure Every customer is alerted before you do something this drastic that could affect their business or life. Just glad no one on my street depended on oxygen or some other medical device or they would not have survived….

Ridiculous billing cycles

My Nov bill is due 12/27/24. I received my Dec bill 12/20/24 saying it is due 1/14/25 and includes the amount not due until 12/27/24. I called Duke & spoke to 3 people, including a supervisor, to ask why my due date went from the 27th to the 14th, a difference of a little over 2 weeks. Was told the cycle changed due to # of days in the month. Makes no sense since the months have only a difference of 1 day! I was also told if I do not pay Nov by 12/27, will get a late fee. So on 1/14/25, I have to deduct the Nov bill from the Dec bill before paying. I think this is outrageous that I don’t have a date I can assume to be accurate for each month’s bill. I am on SS and a strict budget. Paying a bill 2 weeks later is a burden! I suspect my Jan bill will be due in the month of January making me pay them 2 times in one month, which is not acceptable.

Duke Energy doesn’t care where their emails go

Someone created an account with them using my email address. I have asked them repeatedly to remove my email address from their system, but I am ignored. This has been going on for years, and I still get this person’s bills.
