Nasty debt collector letters from Avro when you move house!
I came on trust pilot to see what the reviews were like as I just received a to the occupier letter from a debt collector!! Looks like I am not the only person with the same issue!
Avro was the gas supplier to my house before I bought it, but I switched to British Gas the day I moved in. It takes a week or so for the switch to take place and Britsh Gas told me they speak to the previous gas supplier (Avro) and get the readings and what is owed etc and sort it all out.
Then in April 2022 (almost 2 years after I moved in!!) I get this nasty debt collector letter?!!!
I never received any letters from Avro asking for money and British Gas told me they sort it all out so I had no idea there was money owed to Avro!
Not sure what to do as I would have paid if I had known there was money outstanding. This is my first debt collector letter and not sure what to do. It’s not a pleasant experience.

We received a letter to 'The Occupier'…
We received a letter to 'The Occupier' today with a reference number from Credit Style debt collectors, wanting us to confirm we were at the address in a certain period. The person I spoke to was rude and unhelpful. He claims we owe £200 to ABRO Energy, which doesn't exist. There is/was an AVRO Energy, which is now part of Octopus, however, but since we moved in we have been with Bulb. This letter appeared today out of the blue. We have had no previous communication from ABRO/AVRO whatsoever. When I explained that, he told me I wasn't telling the truth. Clearly, all post from AVRO went to the previous owners who, like everyone else in the universe, had their mail forwarded. Because they obviously didn't take a meter reading or inform AVRO that they'd moved, AVRO must have been chasing them for the money for the last 14 months. AVRO have NEVER contacted us and gone straight to this debt collection agency 14 months later! I'm a law abiding citizen and I've never incurred bad debt, yet this company are doing this to me. IF we owed the money from a bill incurred before our supplier took over, of course we would have paid, but we never received a bill. This is absolutely shocking.

They took £ 231 from me for a £ 71 bill.
I have been writing them emails and calling them since last July, no response.

Update 7/12/21
Update 7/12/21 - today I managed to negotiate lower tariffs with Octopus, about 10% cheaper than the Flexible Avro they were offering me. Gas at 3.62p rather than 3.96p. If you haven't accepted play hard ball!

Avro were OK
I had absolutely no problems with Avro Energy. No problems should be encountered with any balances in credit and any direct debits taken since their collapse. I have been assured this in my new Octopus Energy account.

The Last Laugh
After battling with these morons for months during lockdown over disproportionate direct debit payments based on estimated reads, despite me submitting actual reads each month, the news they've gone bust has made my day!
This is what you get when you have staff with zero customer service skills running a tin pot company from home. The stress this company caused me for months was unreal until I took them to the Energy Ombudsman and won! Even then they exceeded the resolution deadlines set by the Ombudsman and had to be chased several times. In the end they coughed up a 'gesture of goodwill' compensation payment but according to them I still owed them hundreds. I refused to pay it and bow to their thuggish demands and I'm glad I did! I think they call it 'the last laugh'. Ofgem, get all over this sort of thing in future and listen to the majority or you're equally culpable for allowing it. AVRO - A Very Rogue Organisation...
*Update (03/02/22)* So, despite the above and a new complaint to their Administrators, Avro are STILL sending threatening emails about a 'balance' they think I owe. A balance that I have proved is incorrect. This is now harassment by definition. Just when you thought they couldn't sink any lower...

Avro Energy thugs were stealing money from vulnerable people through direct debit route. Ofgem f"""ing moron allow companies to take whatever direct debit they like .
People should write to Ofgem and urge them to change policy re Direct Debit which should be based on "Actual Monthly Use". Not annual estimate. This is the only way to protect energy consumers whose £1.7 billion held by various energy companies due to disproportionate Direct Debit.

Shocking from Avro
Shocking from Avro, as a customer for 2 years with them and now to be moved on to another supplier as Avro where so obviously mis managed from the top, plus as others on here DD taken for full amount as they went bust, but luckily got it back.

Avro credit refund issue…
To all of you who gave Avro good feedback... Lol
To all of you, who like me who had a direct debit taken for the full amount instead of the required settlement amount... Get onto your bank and get them to refund your direct debit under the direct debit indemnity scheme and the final bill is the responsibility of the administrator to chase up with you.
I have been trying for weeks to get my credit left when a full dd was taken instead of the settlement figure... Over £100 in credit and today chased it up with the bank and bingo... DD refunded immediately.

Reviews need investigating.
Trustpilot needs to examine the legitimacy of its reviews, how can people give 5 stars, recommending a company for customer service, honesty and reliability weeks after it has gone bust oweing people money. These reviews, in my personal opinion, are obviously fake and have been bought.

Best energy tariffs on the market
I am an Avro customer for more than 2 years and they were always prompt with my requests, never had any issues. I can recommend Avro Energy as a reliable company, trustworthy and very competitive, having some of the cheapest tariffs on the market. By far my favourite energy supplier. Thank you Avro Energy for not ripping off my pockets!

If you left Avro before they collapsed…
If you left Avro before they collapsed and are owed money then you will probably never see it again. That is because Octopus will not be taking on your account (as you will have already moved to another supplier) and will therefore not be crediting you. Avro are unlikely to have any assets for the liquidators to pay you from.

Avro went bust and left me with a huge…
Avro went bust and left me with a huge debt! Suddenly I’ve a statement saying I’ve used £1000 in the last few months for gas and electricity, £400 plus of that gas when I’ve barely used gas other than for some hot water. No heating has been on all summer or a fire. I can’t testify this with them and now I’m left with a £1000 debt against my name! I don’t know what to do. I guess octopus won’t help either. Whoever they are!

I've just had the DD amount that Avro took on the day that they went bust, added to my balance, if anyone thinks that Octopus will have to give you the same tariff that you had with Avro, think again. You will be offered the Standard Variable Rate.

but saved me a lot of money while they lasted !
