Ameriprise Financial is the WORST

Ameriprise Financial is the WORST. They only recommend and push you into their internal products, the people are extremely aggressive, and do not care about your wishes or how you would like to invest. They are sketchy as hell and I wish I had never heard of them. Dealing with them has been a complete disaster. It would not surprise me at all if they are found to have illegal and fraudulent business practices, based on how their financial advisors behave. My experience over the past 5 years has been horrific and traumatizing. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Stay clear of this awful business

I strongly caution anyone against trusting Ameriprise with their money. After moving abroad a few years ago, Ameriprise began harassing me to close my account — but made it impossible to do so from outside the U.S.

They blocked me from making changes to my account, refused to help me sell my stocks, wouldn't let me add a (U.S.) bank account, and insisted the only way to withdraw funds was to send a paper check to a U.S. address — even though I don’t live there.

I’ve traveled back to the U.S. three times just to try to close my account. Each time, Ameriprise created new hurdles. I finally managed to sell all my stocks, but they still blocked me from withdrawing my funds. They demanded a three-week verification period for a new bank account — even after I called from the U.S., verified my identity, and offered to conference in my bank to speed it up. Then they simply deleted my new bank details — for the third time.

Their online system is outdated, messages get no responses, there’s no confirmation of submissions, and you can’t call them from abroad. It feels impossible to get real help unless you are physically in the U.S.

Ameriprise’s systems are decades behind the rest of the world. I've lived in 11 countries across Africa and Asia without ever facing issues like this. Ameriprise is by far the worst financial institution I’ve dealt with — outdated, unresponsive, and completely lacking customer support. I deeply regret ever trusting them with my money. Stay clear of this awful business.

Worst company I ever dealt with

Worst company I ever dealt with. I opened an account for a promotion to get additional $500. After they received my money I was informed that my money was not received until after Aug. 30th deadline when in fact my account was all set up and I mailed them check on Aug. 22nd. Then their story changed to my account was missing paperwork (not true as I did ALL the paperwork0
). Then story changed again that they received the funds without an account # on check and couldn't figure out where to post money. Then all of a sudden themoney posted to my account on Sept. 3, just after deadline. I spoke with them and challenged on all accounts. They said the "higher ups" would review and decide on an exception so I could qualify. Exception was rejected (no surprise). I did get my investment back with nothing more than a "sorry"!!!! This company is a joke. There are so many options out there so my strong advice is stay away and save yourself a ton of aggravation. "Shame on you" Ameriprise. You lost a possible long term customer over $500!! Based on the cost of acquiring a new customer your decision makers are MORONS!!

STAY AWAY FROM AMERIPRISE

From dealing with the Tampa office-Simon Wheeler and his assistant Tyler to the Minneapolis office, this company is terrible. They are jerking me around for weeks now with $13,000 that they cannot account for that is missing from my account. Allison Adkins in the Minneapolis office refuses to help me bc my mom passed and she has to protect my mom's privacy. They have made mistake after mistake from the first advisor to all the cast of characters I now have to deal with. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM AMERIPRISE, THEY ARE ABHORRENT.

A Bright Light

After years of neglect (I only hold some sentiment stock here), I was contacted by another advisor, Ryan Milo. Even though, it was a little bumpy getting started, he has met with me often (in person...my choice). I had some extra funds to invest and so far they have performed as he stated. I do not trade or buy stocks, but I do participate in a bond fund. I have been pleased with the service I received which met my expectations.

Don’t Do It.

We invested with Ameriprise nearly 3 years ago. We were given reasonable expectations of receiving a 3-5% a year of gains hoping our money would grow. We were given detailed historical data and lectures about the market. Our overall experience has been a disaster. Our entire time being invested, our portfolio has NEVER made a single dollar of positive gains. Not a single dollar. In 2022, we lost 25% of our worth. Our investments have struggled to recover and still have not broke even and are still down. All of their predictions have been dead wrong. Despite abysmal performance, Ameriprise is quick to collect our fees (we’ve paid nearly $9,000 to lose money). Be extremely cautious before you invest with them. Do not believe the hype or the predictions they tell you. The economy and stock market are extremely volatile and unpredictable. Ameriprise has no idea how to make money in today’s market.

High Fees, Bad Advisors, Run Away

High Fees, Bad Advisors. I am in the process of moving my money elsewhere. I thought Ameriprise would be good because someone I know used to work there and liked it. However, my experience has not been positive. My advisor doesn't return my emails and won't provide information I request so I can compare investments. He wants me to just invest in what he says without question. A family member had problems as well and I had to step in to help get it solved because her advisor stopped helping her completely. My sister tried to move her money out and she said it took months, so I hope I am able to get mine out without a struggle.

High fees, low returns

Parents have had Ameriprise for many years and just recently asked me to review. So 20+ years ago they were sold an annuity that has returned 2% per year. I asked that we start to liquidate that and the Ameriprise exec convinced my parents that it would cost them in taxes. So instead they rolled to yet another high fee annuity. Now, the parents are in their 80's and in a low, low tax bracket. Next they have a managed (SPS ?) account. This racks up a 1% management fee and is in a bond fund that has averaged 3%. So again, that is 2% after fees. Overall, my parents would have been better served by a high yield money market.

I FIRED Ameriprise finally and have moved on

I was an Ameriprise client for way way way too long...nearly 20 years. I am not a financial expert which is why I hired one (or so I thought). They sold me Insurance products and other annuity investments only to gain commissions. I am disgusted and after 13 months finally moved the remainder of my $$$$ dollar portfolio to a local boutique Financial Advisor. I need to be able to look someone in the eye and not rely on CORPORATE AMERIPRISE lackeys. I've never been more disgusted

they get the one star for their…

they get the one star for their friendly advisors- but I have never felt so misinformed, and dragged around my nose. They failed to give me any clear information at any time, sent me loads of indecipherable letters, didnt give me clear og full answers, insisted that they could only communicate with me by letters and FAX .... Who uses fax these days..... and Im just SO happy that I never have to deal with them again

Attitude reflects your character

This company does not train their advisors to be client friendly. Take note advisors; you are the brand for the company you represent. The business relationship you establish with your client is a very important tool for success. I can tell when conversing with someone if they really care about me as a person and I was on target with my advisor. This company needs Dale Carnegie training to teach the advisors how to establish a business relationship with their clients. I was so happy to move my account elsewhere. I could not believe how my advisor talked down to me when I decided not to give him proceeds from some property I had sold. Very disrespectful and rude.

Sky High Fees, Dishonest Advisors

I am beyond frustrated with this company. My employer gave me 3 options of providers to use for my 401k. 2 of them were Ameriprise advisors. I called all of the options to discuss fee structure to find the least expensive option. I was told that would have to pay $100 per year plus $6 per trade - not great, but the best of my options. After setting up my account having it funded by paycheck withdrawal, I tried to go online to make a trade. My account wouldn't allow it and I had to call in. When I called in they would not allow me to purchase no-load mutual funds, and they told me that the cost to purchase an ETF would be $56! $56 to make a trade in 2022 is highway robbery, and was not what I was told I would be paying when I signed up for my account. I will closing my account and finding another provider, and I will never use Ameriprise or recommend them to anyone. What a scam!

They are not trustworthy...

They are not trustworthy... Making withdrawals is very difficult because they make it so and they have expensive fees. If you want to make really good returns without fees and only pay when you make profit, search for libbey jane bean on google. Thank me later.

They are commission driven and not…

They are commission driven and not customer centric. Trading on their platform is inordinetly expensive. Research available is not any where near what it should be for the cost. Find a discount broker. If you have a tax qualified account with them move it. Where it not for the credit ties of the account I'd have left them long ago.
