Stay away from AFC for DOT Medical Certificates

Stay away from AFC, Portland, Oregon area clinics, particularly Dr Rana, for DOT medical certificate exams. These people are totally incompetent and unfair.
After many, many years of successfully and easily getting the annual DOT certificate elsewhere, I went to AFC for the 2025 exam. There were no changes in my health. The doctor decided I had a new health issue and would only approve a certificate for 6 months. Dr Rana said she'd extend it for the full year if I obtained paperwork from my primary care physician stating no issue. I was to bring the paperwork back to her, and she'd take care of the certificate. I went through the trouble of doing this today and she wouldn't take care of it without scheduling an exam appointment and billing another fee.
They are only in the business to collect fees. Our family will never go near these clinics again, for any reason.

AFC in Network but Doctor using AFC's Clinic not in network, billed me the full visit

I have UHC and have gone to AFC for years when needed. December 27,2024 went for treatment and diagnosed with acute bronchitis. At no time was I told the Doctor on duty was not in UHC Network, AFC is in UHC Network and has paid them before. How is it possible they have an "out of network Doctor "using their clinic and bill me for all services including AFC 's Lab ,Radiology, Medications and Office visit???.Maybe I should talk to a Lawyer.

If I could give it a Zero I would

If I could give it a Zero I would, I'm now at ER after wasting 2 1/2 hours of my life for NOTHING!.The doctor was incompetent, I'm sure his vision is poor, He dug around in my ear for 45 mins trying to remove insect that still in my ear. Providing nothing to numb pain he claimed he didn't have anything to numb it with , Now ear is in extreme pain! I had to tell him STOP and left ! NOT RECOMMENDED, The Dr should clearly retire
ER Visit, Primary Care Visit and ENT visit thanks to Dr Dementia

I do not recommend this place for…

I do not recommend this place for immigration exams. They were not clear during the initial appointment. I was informed the cost would be $550, but later I received a bill from the laboratory for an exorbitant amount of over $900, which was supposedly already included in the exam package. They mentioned I would get a "discount," but I was unable to obtain it from the laboratory. I have been to the AFC network in Elizabeth several times and still cannot get a response regarding the delivery date of my results. I never received a call from the doctor, as they had stated would happen three days after the blood test. Overall, the staff is unprepared, and there is a serious lack of transparency.

I visited AFC and inquired if they take my insurance

I visited AFC and inquired if they take my health insurance. The staff looked at my insurance card and said yes. I went through with the visit and AFC charged me my copay for the visit. A week later my health insurance denied the claim, indicating AFC is not in the network. I called AFC and the rep said that they do take my insurance but I would need to verify with insurance company if AFC is in the network, as they cannot see this. This part the staff who originally registered me for the visit, did not explain. Basically AFC can say YES to any insurance card, whether they are in network or not, and you'll end up on the hook for paying the entire bill if not in network.

5 stars for AFC Holland, Michigan!

I went to the brand new AFC location in Holland, MI and received the absolute best care. Top notch service and speed. Very friendly staff and extremely professional. The facility was beautiful! I would not hesitate to return should I need medical care in the future.

I visisted 1-2 AFC locations towards…

I visisted 1-2 AFC locations towards the end of the pandemic for covid test in 21-22. Upon the visits, I was not asked for my insurance info and was later sent a bill. I contacted the business immediately to ask why didn't anyone ask for my insurance, to explain that my insurance has been changed, and provide them with my insurance information. I provided the person on the phone with the details, visited the location where they made photocopies and said, "we will make a note of this, to upload to your account tomorrow". IT WAS NEVER ADDED. I got a call a week or 2 later from billing. I gave them the same information already given 3 TIMES. An email was also sent to their billing department with my insurance information. For some reason, noone seems to be doing they say they would ir their job. A few days later, someone responded to the email sent asking if I will be paying the bill [what!]. Despite all of my efforts, NOONE AT AFC HAS DONE THEIR DUE DILIGENCE to rectify the situation. I have been getting harassed by AFC. They are constantly calling and sending invoices for something that should've been handled a long time ago. On the recent calls in July and August, they have threatened to send me to collections. On August 4th and 7th, I spoke to someone from their billing or collection w.e they call themselves and they were very rude when I expressed my frustrations with still dealing with this when I have the emails and records for me contacting them and giving them my insurance information. They explained there is no note of that in their system and that it is now my responsibility to pay the bill. On August 7th, their rude c.s person was going back and forth with me. I told her it's not my issue that I was not asked for insurance for on the day of visit. She states it's not their job but mine to always give the information, even if they don't ask. I told her that's Urgent cars job, not mine, and I shouldn't be the one doing my due diligence bc someone doesn't want to do their job. I've called, visit, and email Urgent care several times, my information shouldn't been updated BUT IT NEVER WAS. After having enough of the c.s agent, I demanded the manager. The manager got on.and started telling à bunch of lies, untop of the b.s she was stating. Aftee I explained to her had my insurance been requested the day of visit none of this wouldn't be happening. She stated that's hard to believe because they ALAYS ASK FOR INSURANCE BEFORE CARE. We just went back and forth because I know what the heck they didn't do. Then the manager started lying stating my insurance is inactive and that they contacted them several times but they refused to pay because they (the insurance) said I was not insure day of service and bc the service was too long ago. I told the manager that doesn't make any sense. I then ask what insurance she has on file. She stated my old and my new. I told her I don't know why you have my old insurance on there when I haven't had them for 3 yrs now. She said they tried both insurance and theyre inactive. It's a lie, I work for the govt. It's very much active. She said if you don't want to pay, we are privately own and will send you to collections. She said if they insurance wont pay then it's my responsibility and reiterate that I do not have insurance so they can't bill them [Chil' please]. The manager was just as rude as the c.s agent and calling me liar on several occasions. After that dialogue, I contacted my issue. They went through my histort and stated AFC URGENT CARE HAS NEVER CONTACTED IN THE PAST 2 YRS. There is no record of them. They also stated they can still contact them for the bill and if i want, they can contact them on my behalf. I then contacted AFC URGENT care where the service was received. They at least had sense and were attentive this time. The person on the phone states, "if we already have insurance information on file, sometimes we don't ask on your next visit, so that's probably why we didn't ask when you were here". The employee then stated there's no record of my new insurance but they are not the ones that's been calling, that it's the Bridgeport office, the billing department is there. He asked what the account number for the bill I received was, gave it, and it was the same as an already payed bill. I had the receipt of payment form AFC. I was able to send an image of the bill to the associate while on the phone with them. They examined it and stated it will be sent to their manager and to call back tomorrow. I called back and the manager stated it will take a couple of days for my account to be reflected.

Overal, thisexperience was distateful and i will not visit them again. They threatened my livelihood by threatening to send me to collections and ruining my credit because the didnt do their job.

Always check how much they are going to charge you

Norwalk CT location.
Overcharged me, the situation never got resolved. Always check how much they are going to charge you, seems like they don't understand well enough what deductibles and copays mean.
I tried to contact them multiple times, they did some audit, this took a while. They agreed that this was an overcharge. But I never received a check back, and now it's just impossible to get them on the phone. Waste of time.

They charged me twice for a visit I…

They charged me twice for a visit I went to over two months ago. They never notified me when they took the funds from my account and a day later took the same amount out again. Their customer service is horrible. When I called their customer service number the first person who answered the phone was almost yelling at me.
If you have any medical needs I would advise you to go somewhere else.
