Refused to pay for covered services

They are refusing to pay for basic, covered services because of an administrative error last year. I have explained the situation to several customer service agents, appealed the rejection (via snail mail, and separately for each claim), and have been rejected again. The rejection letter that they sent me made it abundantly clear that nobody even bothered to read my mailed appeal, which is infuriating because that was Aetna's preferred appeal process.

I have switched to another insurance company and will do everything in my power to avoid having an Aetna policy for as long as I live.

I just wanted to let people know our…

I just wanted to let people know our experience with Aetna. My 74 year old mother has been on Aetna “previously Silver Script”. I set her up for it over a year ago. She had automatic payments where she did not have to deal with any of it ,then they disenrolled her this month June 2025, she had to pay $200 for her prescriptions before we knew what was going on. I called to speak to an agent they said, She did not make her $14.70 payment May 2024.(we had no idea that she had to make this on her own, and it would not be automatically taken out as the rest of the payments were.)and now will not reenroll her even though we paid the $14.70 payment when we found out that was the problem. Yes, she probably received their letters, but never opened them because she was not expecting a bill. It was automatically taken out.
I was on the phone for an hour and a half spoke to four agents. No one could help to get her enrolled or really cared if she was reenrolled or not. We will be finding a different insurance company. I highly recommend you do not go with Aetna! very bad customer service do not care about their elderly customers or trying to help them. This was a simple oversight of $14.70. That has now caused a huge problem!

If I could NEGATIVE stars I would!! I ABSOLUTELY HATE! This insurance!! If you do ANYTHING for your EMPLOYEES or for your Family DO NOT get this insurance!! It is hard to get approved for ANYTHING!! They are stingy, prefer their clients to suffer so they don’t have to pay an expense! They have NO business being a company that WORKS WITH PEOPLE WHO HAVE MEDICAL CONDITIONS!!

Everything went wrong, and is wrong!

What went wrong this time? EVERYTHING! These idiots text me to call my "care team" (I have never met nor spoken to this class of employee and don't believe they exist) and when I do get past their phone computer we're-never-going-to-help-you BS I get huge runarounds. They literally won't do anything unless you get mad and scream at them, and then they are probably lying because they suddenly realize disabled people are very capable of recognizing when they are being discriminated against and if Aenta gets sued, they will lose their jobs... not that they are interested in actually DOING said job. They won't even list my PTSD, shattered vertebrae and TBIs from a 2023 assault! I am on the D-SNP program due to multiple disabilities, and Aetna had me fill out paperwork to get my Medicaid recertified by the state of Georgia, which "unfunded" Medicaid to fund a scam insurance program called GeorgiaAccess. That was 3 MONTHS ago! Aetna was supposed to help clients get past this blatant political greed and get their benefits, yet when I go that route AETNA wants my entire disability check via GeorgiaAccess and will not even speak about the D-SNP plan that it cut all services IN HALF after the year began! I found that out while discussing my dental care with my dentist, Aetna DID NOT NOTIFY ME that my insurance had been cut, nor why they did this. I consider this Theft by Deception. GeorgiaAccess did admit I AM eligible for Medicaid and should not have been removed, but Aetna refuses to acknowledge this and is quite insistent that I both do and don't have Medicaid, depending on what ignorant person answers the phone after the computer asks the same questions over and over and gets it wrong each time. I *thought* the text was to tell me where or not Aetna was successful in getting Georgia's gigantic steal-the-Medicaid-and-food-stamps scam fixed as promised on my behalf. I got a real person on the phone, gave her all my personal information, then was subjected to a torturous round of being babbled at by someone who was NOT on my care team, knew NOTHING about my case, advised me to disregard the text, then said Aetna had sent it after all. She read off the same few nonsense sentences over and over, then subjected me to some Orwellian doublespeak that led me to understand that Aetna does NOT have patient care teams, it's just a header on a piece of paper. After I got angry (Aetna LOVES to poke the bears!) she alleged that she sent an email on my behalf to that care team I have never talked to (I don't talk to imaginary people anyway, so that point is moot). I fully doubt that she did as she said. When I asked if I could correct some completely FALSE data on my "personalized care plan" (which I have never had input on, they have never asked me anything outside of that scam of a self-reporting survey they just scan badly and don't read because I don't really have a care team) an even bigger runaround began. I asked the "representative" what language I was speaking. She replied "English." I asked why my health care plan says I do not speak English and SHE DID NOT KNOW because "That's not my department." She could not explain anything but she did deny everything. Yes, I lost my temper. Yes, I told that girl she was an idiot - because she was poking a Mama Bear with the back of her brain sliding out of her skull. That HURTS. It is also fatal, and Aetna sure seems to be in a hurry to see me die because it does not have those injuries on my care plan at all and has NO intent to help me while I am still surviving. (I also both do and do not have diabetes, anyone want to explain that? No, they didn't want to. I am not diabetic, so is it getting more government money for lying about it?) She first did not know what personalized care plans are nor that I had a care team. Then she backtracked on both. Out of her own mouth, she first told me Aetna would contact me in the next 24 working hours. Then she said 30 days. She could not find any paperwork on my plan, tried to force me to do an online health assessment FOR THE THIRD TIME! I was supposed to get a $50 gift card for that, I have yet to see it and the scammer I talked suddenly forgot that data too - yet the "personalized care plan" I got in the mail did scatter some correct information from my FIRST online survey into all the careless errors and blatant negligence Aetna cheerfully provides people who are forced by the government to pay for health care that, in short, does not cover ANYTHING!
If you are in any way disabled, DO NOT USE AETNA!
And since most of the complaints - and I am reading 92% complaints here - are discussing those benefit cards: I was supposed to get $175 a month for OTC, gas and groceries. I get a card that routinely uses only $63.23 of the $65 it actually allotted me. Who here can feed themselves, much less buy OTC meds and gasoline to boot - on $63 a month?

Can no longer recommend-

If you had asked me last year, I would have said the AfSPA Aetna medical insurance was the best. But this year has taken a bad turn. Having a claim paid has been an exhausting experience, taken weeks. Portions of the claim were simply ignored, no explnti. Calling Aetna. Was at best a harrowing experience. German drs, by law, have to bill each part of an examination individually. Something I explained, though the reviewers in previous years were competent. I hope is a hiccup not the norm. Would I recommend them? Maybe, but it is a tough call. I hope the director takes a close look at the review process.
The exchange rate being used, is the one for date of services, the published prime rate. I have to exchange my dollars to pay, at the consumer rate, around 3% less. On a large bill it can be quite expensive.

Avoid Aetna if able

My employer contracted with Aetna this last cycle. I’m trying to figure out what they require for me to fill a prescription as they have repeatedly given my conflicting information and now refuse to pay for the prescription unless I follow their rules (obviously difficult since they keep changing). Aetna has refused to pay for CRITICAL medications for a colleague and multiple colleagues have lost access to their primary care providers who work in the same health system.
Overall, a poorly functional company that exists primary to sponge money off the system and people in need.

I am shopping for a Medicare…

I am shopping for a Medicare Supplemental Plan and could only find at the time a number for Aetna's Medicare Advantage Plans online, so I called that number. (It's impossible to do anything online without already having a policy number to imput, so shopping from the internet page can't happen.) I ended up talking to a lady who was very kind, and listened, but when I got a quote after 12 minutes for a Supplemental Plan, the email came from HPOne.com and not from Aetna. So I called back today to try to understand what I was getting--is this third party company affiliated with Aetna or what? I got poor phone connections, people who wanted my personal info before they would talk to me (it's a general question) and then finally got transferred by the 4th rep right back into the person I talked to yesterday. Needless to say, I don't care how good the quote was, I have no answers, no trust, a horrible experience with reps on the phone, and I'm probably going to pay more a month and just pick up a policy with my Wellmark Blue Cross/Blue Shield company that I have for Marketplace insurance because they have excellent customer service.

GREEEDY company

I greatly dislike this company. My employer switched from Kaiser to Aetna in January 2025 and I haven't been happy about anything having to do with Aetna. Getting care is like going through multiple different hoops. And for asking questions, I have to call different numbers and be transferred so many times. Nothing is centralized and it's really confusing what is covered and what isn't. They don't cover as much as what Kaiser has and I have to keep paying a steep co-pay. Thank you for covering 10% of my medications Aetna. I wish I could switch back, this is a greedy ass company.

And yes, I've written this review everywhere.

Absolute scum of the earth

Absolute scum of the earth. Absolutely nothing works on the site or on the app. Outdated information, they give you doctors that are 50 miles away, and robbed me of $30,000 dollars after a hit-and-run. File a class-action lawsuit.

Horrible company

Horrible company, They don't honor the medication list reported to them during sign up, after dozens of calls to them regarding their fraudulent representation, and back and forth with doctors and pharmacist still no answers, appeals seem to just end without resolution. Save yourself time and discomfort go with any other insurance company besides Aetna

Aetna is HORRIBLE

Aetna customer service is HORRIBLE.!!

Aetna is the worst insurance

Aetna doesn't pay for anything. If you want to have insurance that doesn't cover anything then Aetna is for you. I live on social security and absolutely nothing is free or low cost about my plan. It's a joke. Worst insurance company ever. And you can't understand the English of the customer service representatives.
