Pleasant first time stay at The Principal in York
This hotel is right next to the train station in York. Its only a few minutes walk away. So saving you money on taxi fares and the wait for a taxi, as the queue was quite long, when we got off the train. I remember thinking as we walked past, thank God we don`t have to stand in that que for a taxi.
This hotel has late Victorian architecture and is nicely furnished, a really beautiful hotel. There are lots of very pleasant public areas to sit in and relax. There is a conservatory to have your buffet breakfast, while listening to the soft jazz music playing in the background. A very relaxing place to sit and eat in, before you start your day.
We stayed in a suite on the fourth floor. The view of York minster from our window was excellent. We had a king sized bed with a modern bathroom to one side. A separate lounge area comprising of a settee, coffee table, easy chair, table with two chairs at the window and TV. A kettle with plenty of refreshments, iron and hair dryer are provided and a cooling fan for the hotter weather. NB: The lift only goes up to the third floor, so you need to climb a small stairs, to access this fourth floor.
There are complimentary gym and pool facilities available and no pre booking, just sign in when you get there. My husband used the gym and was very pleased with it. He said the showers afterwards were very good. For a fee there are also massage services available.
The hotel stands in its own grounds and has plenty of parking. The city center is only a short 15 - 20 minutes walk away. The hotel staff were very pleasant and the reception staff friendly and knowledgeable.
It was a very pleasant first time stay here. We will definitely be back, knowing its a small stroll away from the train station, has everything that we need for a relaxing stay and is a short walk into the beautiful city of York.
