I Trusted Them to Help — They Made Everything Worse

I came to TaxRise scared and overwhelmed. I was behind on my taxes and didn’t know where to start. I had great credit and was financially stable, but I panicked and turned to them, hoping they could help me fix everything for the $500 they promised. It felt like a lifeline — at first.

That hope turned into a nightmare in 2023.

I told them upfront that I worked unusual hours and preferred communication by email. They agreed — but then constantly called while I was asleep, ignored my emails, and were nearly impossible to get in touch with. Meanwhile, the IRS was sending me collection letters.

Months later, they finally filed two years of returns — but incorrectly. They listed me as Married Filing Separately instead of Head of Household, even though I was separated, paid all household expenses, and should’ve claimed my daughter. Because of their mistake, I now owe a huge tax bill I shouldn’t have to pay.

Then came the second blow: they told me for $2,500 more, they could “make the debt go away.” Desperate, I took out a loan I couldn’t afford. And what did they do? Absolutely nothing.

I later found out from TurboTax that I can amend those returns. But when I went back to TaxRise and asked them to correct their mistake, they lied and told me it was against IRS rules. I sent proof it wasn’t. They said they’d follow up — and never did. No call. No email. No amendment.

Because of them, I’m stuck with over $10,000 in tax debt, penalties, and ruined credit — all while trying to support my children alone after a divorce. This company claims to help people get relief. What they really do is take your money, create bigger problems, and disappear when you ask them to fix it.

If someone at TaxRise sees this: please do the right thing. Make this right before I’m forced to get legal help — which, after everything you’ve put me through, I honestly can’t afford.

Lies, all I have to say. They make promises they do not keep while you continue to flip the bill monthly. Just reach out tot he IRS and settle or make a payment plan yourself with them... they had me paying for about 2 years now ($500.00/monthly) and still no settlement??!! That money could've just gone towards my very large tax bill. From one entrepreneur to another, don't use them. I hope this really help someone save their very hard earned money. Good luck guys!

My GF hired Taxrise over 2 years ago and they STILL haven’t resolved her issues and her case gets bumped from one case manager to another - they promise to return calls or have a manger call back - they NEVER call back. They have horrible customer service and seem like a scam at this point. It would have been cheaper and much faster to just hire a tax consultant and get it done - Taxwise saved her little if any money.

I initially started with TaxRise in January 2025 first speaking with Santiago Gomez telling me I would pay a one-time charge of $2500 for them to reduce my taxes. I paid it and submitted all my papers and waited and waited not hearing back until I called my contact Camillia Aznavian at which time she told me they were negotiating repayment. Again, a couple of months passed no contact at which time I called Camillia, and she said Congratulations, they had found a solution. The solution was that they set up a payment plan which is what I could have done. When I first spoke with Santiago, he said they would reduce my taxes at least by half amount owed. They did nothing but set up a payment plan with the IRS. Very disappointing. Basically, I gave them $2,500 for doing nothing.

If I could give a zero, I would. This is seemingly fraudulent. Everyone was very helpful at first. My state taxes were about to garnish - I was assured they would address immediately. I paid my 5k and now 4 case managers, and 4 months later - nothing has been done, except they took my $ No one, not even the generic‘customer care’ will call me… this is unlawful! Unbelievable- don’t waste your $ and certainly don’t pay them up front like I did.

I have been with Tax Rise for over six months. Here is the good news. Yesterday I received the news that the Internal Revenue Service has put my account on a permeant non collectible status. Thank you Tax Rise.

Today, June 11, 2025 I spoke to Carla about a refund. I was suckered in on October of 2023 and not one thing has been done in my case. She tells me that they can refund 2500$ of the 4500$ they took from me. I asked why should I pay 2000$ for them doing nothing besides dodging my calls. Prior to taking my monies they were always available and called 100 times a day. After the transaction was made calls went directly to voicemail to leave a message. On the very rare occasions that I did get through a promise of hearing back from them within 24 to 48 hours never happened.
Last year I wrote a negative review and immediately heard back from a Joshua J. identifying himself as the owner of Tax Rise. After a couple of emails he told me to contact the quality control department for a refund. I did and James said he would call me within 24 to 48 hours after figuring the hours owed from the phone calls. Never got that call back either. Well Carla tells me today he is not the owner and was not authorized to give back a refund.
This whole company is fraudulent. I highly recommend that you don’t do business with these people.

Supposedly completed my case, received a notice from IRS demanding payment, contacted Taxrise same day. Received call a few days later and got transferred to a Salesman. Salesman said that I would receive a call shortly, still waiting.... UPDATE, Joshua from Taxrise got back to me and fixed my problem. He should be in charge of customer service!
