I had cataract lens replacements in both eyes followed by Yag laser capsulotomy and then vitrectomy for floaters in both eyes.
Information provided by both Dr Lash and the team at Optegra eye hospital was comprehensive. Thoughtout all these operations, Mr Lash explained what he was doing all the way through these 6 short operations.
My sight is now superb and I am very grateful for the advice and care received. I cannot recommend highly enough..

I had procrastinated over my eye surgery, which resulted from an accident ten years ago. Finally the floaters were getting too much so after consultation with Dr Lash I went for it - EMV lens replacement in both eyes, cataract surgery in both eyes and a full vitrectomy in my left eye.
Results are incredible. And this is one year on. I didnt want to review such surgery instantly but wanted to see how it settled down. It is still one of the best decisions and investments I have ever made. no more contact lenses, colours are brighter, everything is lighter - an absolute gamechanger. Couldnt be happier, and still am a year after surgery.
For sure, eye surgery is not pleasant, there are occasional snags to work through, but it is all so well explained, followed up and cared for throughout. My sight is pretty much 20:20 now in each eye (actually better than that in one!). Occasionally use reading glasses for really small stuff by I can work at my desk and laptop with no glasses and my distant vision is amazing. Such a contrast to what it was before.
Clearly Dr Lash is highly capable, very skillful and works with a great team. Thoroughly recommended.

Incredible from booking the appointment to having the operation and the aftercare. Stephen was totally reassuring despite the seriousness of the procedure and I am so grateful that as a result I can now see perfectly thanks to Stephen's remarkable skill, expertise and empathy. Thank you so much.Maureen

Everything was so smooth from booking the appointments to having the cataract surgery. Mr Lash was exceptional and made me feel at ease throughout the whole process, he explained everything in a very clear way. I have already recommended Mr Lash to a friend. Retinal detachment macular off right eye (second detachment in 8 weeks). Stephen stepped in as my surgeon was on holiday. He saved the sight in my eye although my vision isn’t good but it was even worse before the operation. I was, and am, so grateful to him.
Epiretinal membrane left eye. A great success although I shouted at him as I wasn’t aware he’d told me I might not be able to drive again but since May 2023 I’ve been driving. Thank you, Stephen, I shall be forever grateful to you. Also, a big shout out for Tanya for whom nothing was too much trouble.

I had 2 surgeries.
The surgery in my rt eye in August involved retinal peel to address pretty bad scarring issues as well as a cataract removal. Mr Lash was exceedingly honest and clear about what he would aim to do as well the uncertain prognosis re improvement level. In the event the operation was more successful than we dared to hope. Throughout the procedure he was reassuring and clear about what he was about to do and despite being pretty anxious I felt very much in safe hands.
Follow up care was excellent.
Left eye surgery with him was a straightforward cataract and an enhanced lens replacement. Again the options and expectations post surgery were well explained. Surgery was undertaken well and I have been left with great distance vision.

Stephen provided an excellent service. I have had the floaters removed from both of my eyes now, the second eye surgery recently in December. Everything went smoothly, there was no pain and I now have wonderfully clear eyesight. I am happy to recommend Stephen for surgery to remove floaters.

Okay this is going to be a bit long so brace yourselves.
Back in the first half of 2021 I got a sudden onslaught of floaters in both of my eyes. I had been going through some very great stress and anxiety at the time, which was first caused me to get tinnitus and then these floaters soon followed.
I looked at a number of places that could do a vitrectomy and in my search I found Stephen Lash's website. I emailed to ask about the price and as private healthcare and with me not having any private health insurance, it wasn't cheap of course, but also wasn't more expensive than other places and was considerably cheaper than some of the prices I had been quoted by vitrectomy surgeons in London.
I decided to visit Mr Lash in Guildford for a consultation (I don't think he does consultations in Guildford anymore which is a shame).
When I went to an NHS hospital I was basically told by the eye consultant there that the NHS could not do this and she said she wouldn't recommend it to me because my vision was good and eyes were healthy so it was not a good idea to mess with my eyes, and doing a vitrectomy would according to her result in an 80% chance of me getting cataracts within a year. Mr Lash said something quite different. He explained that it was a generally safe procedure these days with minor risks as with a lot of surgeries. He also said it did mean I had greater chance of gettings cataracts in older age (60s or 70s), although nothing about getting it within a year, and that if I got cataracts I would notice that my long distance sight wouldn't be so good but my short distance sight would improve, if I remember correctly. Either way he was happy to do the procedure if I decided to go ahead with it.
I had the vitrectomy done on both eyes. First the left in July 2022 and then the right in January 2023. Both were in Whiteley Fareham. The surgery itself was a smooth procedure done in a very relaxed environment. The thought of people, even if they are experienced eye surgeons, poking around in your eye is terrifying. The surgery was absolutely fine with relaxing music playing during it.
The trickier part was the recovery afterwards. I had to take various eye drops a few times a day for varying amounts of weeks (I have never been a fan of eye drops). There was also an air bubble put into my left eye after the first surgery which meant sleeping on my side for about a week. For the 2nd surgery it was a gas bubble which again meant sleeping on my side, this time for about a week and a half. That wasn't easy as I generally like to sleep on my back but I did the best I could.
One thing that frightened me after surgery was that I had a lot (and I do mean a lot) of little tiny black dots flying around in my eye. It almost looked like groups of flies. This concerned me although it did say in the information sheet given to me to take home that these should clear away after a couple of weeks. They didn't so I was getting nervous, but after about 6 to 8 weeks they did clear away. This is important to remember. If you have the surgery and have these in your eye, it could take a good few weeks or even months for them to clear away completely. I had the same situation after surgery on the 2nd eye and this frightened me again for a different reason. After a couple of months they had still not cleared, so I got nervous again. These took a lot longer to clear. Some of them cleared after a few weeks but for example I had one that looked like a line of black spray that was there for a long time. It took about 5 months before that was gone.
As I write this It's now been almost a year and half since the surgery on my left eye and almost a year since the surgery on my right eye. The left eye seems almost perfect. It appears completely clear. The right eye is good. It had so many floaters before and they all seem to have been taken out. Sadly I do have a few tiny black dots in there now that sometimes come into my vision. Since then it's been almost a year I don't know if they are still going to vanish at some point or not but my right eye is good but not as good as my left.
Overall I would say it was a positive experience. Well, as positive as having surgery on your eyes can be. Mr Lash and his staff were very kind and when I was concerned with what I was seeing in my eyes after surgery they responded to emails and he spoke to me on the phone about it. If my right eye was as clear as my left eye I would give 5 stars but I'm giving a solid 4. Also I do seem to be seeing what seems like the outline of my lens or eyeball or something particularly in my left eye when I look to the side at a certain angle but I don't know if that's something I would always have seen but have just become more aware of now or if I see it now because I have had eye surgery.
[EDIT] Hi Mr Lash. It's Wojciech. Slightly confused about the response comment. I had surgery to remove floaters not improve my vision. I don't wear spectacles.

I had bilateral cataract surgery in October followed by bilateral YAG laser capsulotomy yesterday. I was very(!) apprehensive about both procedures as I have Sjogren's syndrome which causes very dry eyes. I needn't have worried - Mr Lash has done exceptional surgery and has willingly given much-needed reassurance throughout, with prompt and thorough answers to my (many) questions. Special thanks must also go to his secretary, Tanya, who has been an absolute star. Once again, many thanks to you both.

I can't recommend Mr Lash and his team ( Tanya & Paul ) highly enough for the excellent treatment, care & service they provide.
They genuinely want you to be comfortable and reassured, before, during and after surgery.
Mr Lash is passionate and obviously enjoys his work. Achieving the best possible outcome for your vision is as rewarding for him as it will be for you.
Hopefully I haven't made any typos here but it is only 24hours since surgery ( cataract replacement with multi-focal lens ).
