Scammers

Scammers

I was out of the country and missed a payment, they cancelled my insurance and asked me to pay the initial down payment again to take out a new policy and wouldn’t reinstate my policy by paying off the missed payment and playing catch up. That’s a text book scam, corporate greed is a horrible thing. I won’t use them again as I do not deal with extortionists.

PAPERLESS BILLING SCAM

I am enrolled in paperless billing. Texts and Emails. I pay my 6 month policy upfront so I have never had a late payment. I recently added road side assistance online about 5 weeks ago. I logged into my account today and saw I had a past due bill for the roadside assistance. Strange since I hadn't received any paperless or papered notification notifying me anything was due let alone past due. $22 for the added roadside and $10 late fee. I paid the $22 and called to contest the late fee since I was NOT notified or would have paid it. I looked through my texts and the only text I have ever received from Progressive was the day I purchased the policy and had signed up for paperless notifications 5 months prior. The representative/supervisor told me no refunds on late fees unless it's Progressives error. I explained I didn't receive any billing or text notification or I would have paid which is progressives's error and a 50% late fee was ridiculous regardless. I asked for proof that I was notified. I was then told the text notification is just a courtesy and they're not responsible if they are actually sent or not!!! Insane. Why even offer it if you're not going to do it. I explained my policy is up for renewal in a month and if they're not going to take responsibility for the late fee I will change insurers. They said go ahead and change. Over $10. Fine with me. Just another greedy conglomerate trying to gouge and bully customers anywhere they can. Not a company I will ever do business with again.

I spent over 5 hours on the phone

I spent over 5 hours on the phone, constant problem, couldn't verify my VIN, though no other company had a problem. Then an idiot salesperson told me they couldn't verify it because I drove a foreign car. Have 2 not at fault accidents between the three drivers, supplied proof that we had 0% liability, then I was turned down for insurance because of 2 not at fault accidents. What kind of business is this? A person can't help it if someone plows into you while you are sitting still. I would never recommend this company, don't waste the time. It is obvious even if they would insure you, the moment you have a not at fault accident they would cancel you.

Progressive adds ride share to policy without consent.

I cancelled Progressive after I realized the scam they were doing. I bought a brand new truck. They added without my consent extra fee for ride share (Uber/Lift).I’ve never been a ride share. It was a lot of money. When I finally caught it they refunded partial amount.Said it was my fault for not catching it sooner.Young man on other end of phone told me
To prove I wasn't ride share.Trash company and deceitful to say the least.

If you call to ask a question about…

If you call to ask a question about insurance they won’t verify what your asking they just go ahead and change your policy and then bill you 3x your original amount and say sorry we can’t do anything about it.

Boat Dpt, not knowledgeable or professional

I have had Progressive on my boat for a few years and they cancelled it this year due to the speed of the boat! They claim it will exceed 100MPH with a 150 HP Motor. I called and sent emails asking them to review the information, the boat will not exceed 50MPH. No answer and no response. The underwriters in the Boat department are inept and lack the ability to review boats they are not familiar with.

Unreasonable Delay

Why has my car been sitting because the estimator was on vacation. I didn't buy insurance from the Charles Betts agency so I do not understand why my repairs are on his schedule. Christian is handling our claim and he seems clueless about the status but took the time to explain that 'people go on vacation'. Charles told no one and Christian's customer service is awful.

Non-responsive / unhelpful

Non-responsive, claim reps have unnecessary attitudes, don’t tell you anything about the process as you’re going thru it. Progressive is the worse. Every auto shop and rental car rep I came in contact with while going thru my recent claim process, told me progressive is terrible to work with. I’m disappointed in my overall experience. I wouldn’t recommend progressive insurance to my mortal enemies. They are terrible. You call the 800# you’ll get an extremely nice person that answers but they can’t help you; they’ll forward you to someone else who either doesn’t answer or has an attitude. I legit had the worst claims rep for my auto accident, she had an attitude everytime I spoke with her and she never ever returned my calls or messages. I asked a manager why doesn’t Progressive provide customers with an understanding of how the claims process works like a workflow chart or anyyyyy bit of information that would help a client understand the process of receiving your car back - ie. “ we receive your info about an accident, within a week will confirm the details and work with you to get you into a shop for estimates, then we’ll take another week to negotiate the repairs. You’ll receive information and have 48 hours to agree.” Something like that, why aren’t customers given some type of work flow of the claims process - she told me they can’t do that because every claim is different. That’s nonsense. Yes every claim is different but there should be a workflow in terms of how they are handled from intake to completion . There’s no reason why I need to be completely confused about the process as I’m going thru the process bc my claims agent is unresponsive and isn’t telling me what’s going on. The progressive app provided the wrong status on my car the entire time my car was being worked on. My car said it was repaired a week and half before it was. It took me 2 months to get my car back and that was because progressive was impossible to get in contact with. I’m beyond frustrated I would literally recommend Progressive to NO ONE.

TURN OFF AUTOPAY!

TURN OFF AUTOPAY!! They will add drivers to your policy without consent. I have been with them for 15 years and because my son who recently got his driver's license, was added to my policy and I was charged $288 a month. Since I was did automatic payments this was taken out from my bank account. My son has his own vehicle and insurance. When I called them they said they can do this with people that have the same address. They claim they sent out mail informing me of the changes. Since I didn't respond it was considered a form of my agreement. Exact words from the lady I was on the phone with. Even though you do not physically add them to your policy. You will have to show them documents of that other person having insurance to get them off your policy. No money will be refunded unless you cancel. This is robbery and I don't understand how this is legal. I had to get insurance elsewhere then prove to them my new policy number before I could cancel my policy with them. Also you have to inform them in writing to cancel. This can be done through mail, email or chat. They make it difficult to do this. They will claim to refund by check in the mail but I haven't gotten nothing yet

NOT IMPRESSED

New to them, so we will see next go around on the rate but I can tell you now they use that App Snapshot to ding you on silly things like "night driving"," mileage" and they say hard braking when not that or not your fault but really new brakes on a really new car. So far not impressed with such nonsense, apparently good rates as long as you do not drive.

They gave me an auto insurance for…

They gave me an auto insurance for about $280 a month but increased it to $350 as they stopped offering e-fulfillment discount that they said was only valid for first 6 months. Disappointed! Sounds like misleading practices meant to attract customers by reasonable quote and then increase the premium after 6 months.

STAY AWAY FROM PROGRESIVE INSURANCE.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY.

I am a senior citizen living on a fixed income and have had Progressive home insurance for years and never filed a single claim until a year ago.

My upstairs neighbor's water heater leaked and soaked my utility closet. I called Progressive and they suggested I file a claim, assuming they would go after the neighbor's insurance for payment but they did not. Progressive eventually paid out about $2300.

This year, they more than TRIPLED my rate, from about $1200 a year to over $4000, TWICE what they paid out. This is going to cause financial hardship for me as it is a ridiculously large increase that I had no way of planning for.

Do not use Progressive. They will take any and all opportunity to increase your premiums and the increase will not just be a slight one.

They do not care about their clients and will take advantage of them at the slightest chance.

Beware or pay the Progressive penalty for being a loyal client THEY ARE A SCAM!

I have no absolutely no tickets or accidents, but progressive kept increasing the price of my car insurance by hundreds of dollars each year. I finally canceled my insurance with the thieves at Progressive.

Excessive increase at renewal.

Low initial quote followed by hefty increase (25%) at renewal even only after six months with no claims, no changes in coverage. Is it possible that cost has increased by 25% in six mos? I do not find this kind of bysiness tactics ethical. By comparison my Progressive motorcycle insurance premium has been fairly stable

Absolutely the worst customer service…

Absolutely the worst customer service to try to deal with. Everyone has a different story when you call and different prices. I've never had a car accident my driving record is clean yet this year they raise my rate over $200. I asked them why oh it went up 4% oh okay where should my price be then it should be they said $793, but your website wants me to pay $941.00 but sir if you pay in full you get $148.00 taken off. I said well if that's the case when I click pay in full it's still $984. So I have some I used to be able to not have this on auto renewal and it's showing that this is going to be renewed on July 11th. I assure you sir you're not on auto renewal. Well send me an email telling me that I'm not on auto renewal because I don't see it and if you charge me somehow without my permission I want to have something in hand and I can take to my bank no sir we can't send an email just trust me. Trust progressive insurance are you kidding me! This company is a joke they try to get people to pay more and not notice stay away from this company. They play around with their website to get customers that have been with them for years to pay more than what they're asking people to pay when they first go to progressive!

Dishonest practices

For the last 15 years I have been a loyal customer with progressive with their good drivers rewards app and filed no claims. I have had no accidents in 50 years. Received my license at 17 great driving record. I filed a claim due to mother nature hail damage and my rate doubled. after 10 yrs I was hit by a progressive driver t boned. Progressive never provided snapshot of other driver speeding. I was only doing 30. I was not at fault. My bill was tripled over $400 I will never recommend this company. Talk to my attorney

Customer service tells you one thing and then charges you because you listen to them.

I am set up for auto pay and my bill came due and I saw that it never came out of my account. I called progressive and ask them if I could just make my payment and they told me that I could make my payment but if the payment came off my card afterwards, I would end up making a double payment. They told me to give it a couple days. I called back a couple days later when the money was still in my account and again ask them if I can make my payment because for some reason, it wasn't coming off my card and they told me to give it until friday. Friday came and they charged me $20 to my account because of the payment when I had been trying for a week to get them to take the payment. I was told there was nothing they could do concerning the $20 fee. I could understand it if I just didn't make my payment but I called numerous times trying to get this resolved and by listening to them and waiting until Friday to see if it worked itself out, I get charged $20. That is not right on any level and I will be looking for a different insurance company. I pay my bill each and every month and this was not my fault and I tried numerous times to resolve this. Terrible customer service and I will not deal with a company like this. I am honest in anything I do and I expect the same in return.

I Would Rate It Zero Stars If I Could!

About six weeks ago, I contacted Progressive about removing a 2015 Kia Sorento from my policy, as the engine had seized up and the vehicle was no longer operable. Yesterday, 6/12/2025, I received correspondence that my coverage for my 2019 Buick Enclave would be cancelled on 6/20/2025 because I had neglected to send some information that Progressive's customer service rep verified they already had. Three weeks ago, on 05/24/2025, I transferred the insurance on the Kia to the Buick. Everything went over without a hitch.

THAT DAY.

So, I log into my Progressive account, only to find out that not only were they planning on cancelling my coverage on 06/20/2025, they were also going to bill me $1,036.00 a month beginning 07/02/2025 to 10/02/2025.

I called Progressive. At first they said it was the information they ALREADY HAD. Then they said it was because I removed the Kia from my policy. Then they said it was because my wife, who has NEVER driven or had a license, wasn't listed as a DRIVER on my policy. I inquired why and the rep told me that, "the underwriters require everyone in the household to be listed on the policy, driver or not."

BUT...

They made an adjustment. I was no longer going to have to pay the thousand-plus dollars, but my monthly premium would increase from $124.86 to $261.42 because "the underwriters must have everyone in the household -- driver or not -- listed on the policy if they have ANY access to the vehicle."

Let's make an adjustment

And they DID. However, my premium is now $169.28 per month. Better than $261, but still higher than the $124 I was paying for the same coverage just THIS month. I was expecting to have to pay a few extra dollars because the Buick is a newer vehicle. My premium on the Kia was $84.46 per month, but when I got the Buick, my monthly premium was set at $124. I was on the phone for more than an hour trying to get this resolved.

I did get it resolved, but I'm STILL not satisfied with Progressive, as this is NOT the first time I've had issues with them. Once they raised my rate by nearly $30.00 because they said "the rate hike is based on the state you reside in, and North Carolina has very different insurance laws, and therefore, is subject to a higher rate." I was NEVER informed of the rate hike, and did not become aware of it until my next statement

I'm going to be looking for another insurance company. These people are the worst. The only good thing about Progressive is its corn-dog commercials. And that says a lot!
