Buyer beware

Buyer beware, green light guaranteed over $6k purchase price is a joke. I bought a 2022 Toyota Corolla from them with a guarantee there were no transmission issues. The car will not shift without taking your foot off of the accelerator. The RPM's just keep climbing. I filed the claim and it took days before they even attempted to contact me. I had called them 4 times to attempt to get up with assigned arbitration rep. After 5 days of reaching out, He tells me I have to drive it 35 miles one way to get the car checked by a franchise dealer or an Aamco. Both want to know if they diagnose the issue will they be allowed to fix it. (I tell them, I have no idea which is not true) because Openlane will not pay but $95/hour minus a $300 deductible to do any allowed work. The diagnostic fees are on you to pay and no Aamco or . No where in the arbitration does it state you have to go to a franchise dealership. I am very small, and am effected by the time and expense of this MADE UP POLICY. There needs o be a class action suit opened against them because of bias and not handling things the same way, They are going to use mileage and year as a feeble stance where they can bounce around and make different decisions for different buyer in the name of determining what pittance they dole out. The truth is they make it as tough on you to collect and their guarantee means nothing. The arbitrator, Abe, told me on a recorded call the inspectors only drive the car up to 30 mph on the lot so when I was buying an auction car from them, I needed to plan on it needing a transmission. In essence the greenlight means nothing, the stand behind sellers who know there is an issue with a no unwind policy. Once you buy it, you are screwed and there is no recourse. I am going to every review site possible to expose their misleading, lying, crooked handling of claims. You are out a $1,000 bucks on every claim no matter what. They reimburse a $95 bucks an hours vs an industry average of $125-$140 an hour, they give you used part reimbursement (I understand), they pay for no seals or fluids, they force (me) to drive 70 miles on a 100 mile max travel before they are off the hook and they charge $300 deductible to fund the arbitrator screwing you. both Manheim and ACV allow for unwinds, so I will never buy from these people again.

Purchased a 21 Yukon that was green lighted as Inspected thoroughly and no issues. We took to GMC Dealer for inspection due to concerns. Dealer found various issues and sent pics showing this was an long ongoing issue. The Arb was declined saying they don't cover Rear Main Seal which they do, then it was because the vehicle had more than the 100 miles based on their arb guide. Very Very dissatisfied. I have not argued nor brought up issues with other vehicles purchased which had issues

I have been a customer with OPENLANE /…

I have been a customer with OPENLANE / BACKLOT FOR ABOUT 5 years and I will be taking my business elsewhere like a lot of my fellow colleagues. Don’t trust there inspection reports they are fabricated, and as far as customer service it’s at a zero and they ach money out of your account for no reason and if you don’t catch it’s gone . I have bought about 1200 cars and sold about 600 in the last 5 years with OPENLANE I know that’s not a huge number but considered a good buyer and seller . I have taking my business to ACV Manheim and other independent auctions and hope other do as well .

After this company was sold

After this company was sold, it became a joke. they have vehicle inspectors lying on the reports saying they drive vehicles at a certain high speed which is not truth because when they come to my lot to take pictures at the buybacks. They do not take pictures of parts that are not under their crappy policy like rocker panels or body floor, so you can have that surprise.

That is why ACV is taking over the market, because of platforms like this joking with people sweat.

Warning – Sold me a car with blocked documents, no real help offered

I bought an Opel Astra through Openlane and I can't register it – the registration certificate is flagged as stolen. A criminal case was opened in Romania and the car is now unusable.

After posting a review on Google, they replied publicly saying they take the case seriously. I contacted them privately right away, but they refused to help. Their public reply was just for image – no action behind it.

The company overall is a joke

The company overall is a joke! I sent emails to get issues resolved that were unanswered, customer service is no help! They are rude and incompetent and after reading their reviews the only positive thing I have to say is that they are consistent!!

Small dealers get taken to the cleaners

Small dealers get taken advantage of. I am a small shop and bought a couple vehicles within a month of each other. They both needed timing repairs. They were both green lighted and had no notations on mechanical issues or the screaming howling noise that the second one had on startup. Either the inspectors are incompetent or they are just a disreputable business that takes advantage of the little guy. Now, we get to pay an extra $2500 per vehicle for the timing to be done as well as the other normal repairs that we plan on when purchasing online. Now, we will have more into both vehicles than they book out for because they don't want to do the right thing. They just lost an up and coming business. I pray that they learn to do better or more people read these reviews before using their platform.

Run away from this auction platform as fast as you can!

I just paid $18,135 for a late model, low mileage vehicle that, when delivered to me, clearly had a large amount of bondo in one body panel, this body panel and both bumper covers had been repainted poorly. None of this was listed on the condition report!
They offered me $200 in arbitration.............
Either the people doing the condition reports are hugely inexperienced/incompetent, or they're taking money from someone so as to overlook glaring problems.
Either way it is absolutely buyer beware, no matter whether you're buying a cheap car or a more expensive vehicle.
An auction lives or dies by their condition reports in this modern online auction system, DO NOT TRUST THIS AUCTION PLATFORM!

Dealers don’t use this system

Dealers don’t use this system.
It favours the big sellers and buyers only. They arbitrated a car I sold in July back to me in November and I still don’t have the car back but they took their money . A corporation owns Openlane, Adesa , Manheim , autotrader , afc and otolane and more . They buy up Canadian companies , fire the Canadians workers and outsource to the phillipines . Another Soulless corporation

dealers (buyers) please be aware!

dealers (buyers) please be aware!!

buying vehicles under $6000 from this auction is basically buying them as is sale, no matter what the inspection report says!! even if its marked green (guaranteed).

we paid a little under $6000 for good run and drive 2017 Chevy traverse based on the inspection report (nothing wrong with the car) everything marked green as described guarantee).
but we received it with huge cracks in the front windshield and bad transmission (shutters and hard shifting)!! after fighting with them on the phone, the company declined our arbitration since its under $6000 sale!!
at this point we quit doing business with this company.
