These clocks just don't tell the time

These clocks just don't tell the time. We got one from Heal's which completely failed to tell the correct time. Heal's were excellent in sending a replacement, which also just didn't tell the time. Useless.

Newgate Clock can’t keep time

I am now on my 4th Newgate ‘The Luggage’ Analogue Wall Clock 32cm in blue, purchased from John Lewis. I love the clock so persevered with it thinking it must be able to keep and tell the time or why do Newgate keep producing these? Now reading these reviews I realise I am not alone. John Lewis have replaced it each time within the 2 year warranty. The issue seems explained that it “eats” batteries because of its cheap mechanism. I keep replacing them but the clock loses time every time!

It’s lovely to look at but not if it can’t keep time. This one will also be returned as faulty. I will spend my £65 elsewhere and not on a Newgate Clock!

Nil points for Newgate kitchen clock

Received our large kitchen clock as a Xmas present 1 year ago…no problems for first six months, then it stopped working. The 2nd hand had started snagging with the main hand because of its flimsiness. My husband had to take clock apart to ‘bend out’ the 2nd hand, and it started working again. However, despite this, it keeps running slow and stopping. Batteries have been replaced several times but it seems to ‘eat’ them. Every time my husband manages to get the clock going again, it loses time then eventually stops altogether, even after batteries are replaced.
This clock is made from cheap materials and the movement is useless. I’ve decided it’s got to go and would advise anyone reading this never to buy a Newgate clock, as they are just resting on their original good name, but have now sold out to cheap Chinese companies. I’m also surprised that John Lewis still sells them!

Newgate use dpd to deliver the clocks. No attempt made by delivery company on CCTV. Now i have to pick my deliver up from miles away. Thanks for the personal service and delivery!.

Big price for a cheap and time losing clock

LIke another poster said the clock lost time from day one. It would work for a week then suddenly drop 5 minutes out of nowhere or just stop. ate batteries and yes I bought new ones to ensure they were from another batch. the underlying issue is the cheap and nasty movement they use is not a high torque mechanism so the large hands are too much for it. AS the rest of the clokc is made of plastic and paper its all cheap and nasty for a premium price

My experience is unfavourable

My experience is unfavourable. I purchased a Newgate alarm clock via John Lewis. The clock looks lovely but from the outset it was losing time. This, despite inserting a brand new battery on first use; and then replacing that battery with another brand new battery when it was running slow. The problem remained.

I wrote a review on the John Lewis website about this - and Newgate (not John Lewis) responded to it, stating that this was a battery problem.

Am not sure how Newgate could rule out some other fault without examining it. I would also respectfully advise that I know how to change, replace and buy batteries.

In any event, I have now returned the clock to the retailer and asked for a refund. It is a shame that the manufacturer immediately assumed that the problem with the clock was as a result of something I did, rather than countenance even the possibility that there may be some problem with the clock itself.

Very disappointing because the clock looked lovely - but if it can it be relied on to tell the time, it is if no use.

Newgate Clocks Customer Service = Zero

I bought a Newgate Hollywood Hills mantel clock and placed it on my mantel, however whenever we had the fire on the clock would loose time. I reported this to where I bought the item (J.L) and they did nothing and only quoted a 30 day policy for returns. I had owned the clock longer than 30 days before needing the fire on. This meant they would honour nothing. I contacted Newgate to find a better model. Their answer was "to be honest we can't recommend any other clock as they are manufactured in the same way." Neither the retailer nor the manufacturer would refund my money even though the clock was unfit for purpose and even by their own admission no use as mantel clock.
I will deal with neither the retailer or Newgate ever again.
