I Would Do It Again!

It was the perfect mix of challenging and obtainable. We LOVED getting to know the families/individuals we were coming alongside.

Inspired and encouraged

It was truly inspiring to see how my group, mission discovery team members, and community members all worked together to help build the community back up. I also loved how much we were encouraged to visit with and get to know the people we were working with even if it meant taking a break from the work.

God Moved in the Dust: A Mission Trip I’ll Never Forget

This mission trip changed me. Not just because of the work we did, but because of how clearly I saw God at work, through the eyes of a child, the gratitude of a family and the joy found in the simplest acts of love.

Every nail, every beam, every brick laid wasn’t just construction, it was a testament. A foundation of hope, a reminder that even in the most humble places, God is present. His mercy shows up in concrete forms, in homes, meals, moments and tears.

I went thinking I’d give, but I left having received far more:
Love without condition.
Joy without measure.
A fresh glimpse of the Kingdom of God.

This experience made me pause and reflect deeply. Back home, I often find myself chasing “more” for my family, more comfort, more stuff, more success. But maybe what we really need is more of what matters:
More presence.
More peace.
More purpose.
More God.

This trip was a holy reset. A call not to do less in love, but maybe less in stress. Less in striving. Less in stuff. We didn’t just do missions, we lived the Gospel and I’ll never be the same.

It was an incredible experience

It was an incredible experience! Everyone ensured that I was well taken care of! The food was great, and so were the accommodations! Our flight left at 0130 in the morning and we were able to stay at the hotel well past the check out date! Everyone was super sweet and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience!

A good mission trip!

Joel is a very effective leader. The students responded well to him. We enjoyed our projects and VBS. It was a good mix of relational and work.

Great Experience!

Our group had a great experience! We appreciated the intentionality of Mission Discovery in regards to the faith development of our students and adults. The devotionals and times of worship and reflection were all well thought out and delivered well. The food was great and every single staff member was approachable, helpful, and engaged the entire week. We can’t say enough positive things about the staff. We also loved the fact that while on worksites Mission Discovery was always looking for opportunities to present Jesus to the homeowners.

The accommodations were pretty good. We were a little limited in things we could do during free time just because much of the facility was still shut down. This made free time a little tricky with as many kids as we had.

I realize it’s really hard to time things out, but there were times that we had a few too many people on job sites which resulted in some standing around. Again, that’s hard to account for all the time!

We just loved the trip! Thanks so much for your work!

Antigua

This was a very comfortable and pleasant trip. The accommodations, people and work were wonderful.
I would liked to have had the people getting the houses and their families introduced to us first and had them actively involved in the work. Meaningful for them and for us.

I thought the structure and…

I thought the structure and organization of the activities was good. The hotel we stayed at was very adequate. Food was good. There was plenty of drinking water.

For constructing the houses the hardest part was mixing the cement. The process could have been more efficient if a mechanical mixer was available.

It would be nice to some how confirm that the residents of the houses built will actually be the owners.

Over all it was a great experience and I think our work really benefited a few families.

Third time is the charm...

Mission Discovery delivers quality mission experiences for the entire group! This was our third time partnering with them for our mission to Antigua Guatemala and it was truly amazing. We built a home, gave out water purifiers, food and Bibles to those in need; taught Christian Bible school, Art, STEM, and painted a mural with the 9th graders at Kairos Christian School. Mayra, Marco, and Alejandra Garcia from Kairos Ministries were exceptional local partners and Chris and Anna were amazing Mission Discovery team leaders as well. We left changed for the better and moved by all those we encountered.

I love Mission Discovery- Just a few bumps

I did CBS, which I think went well. We had 25-30 consistent kiddos and it was awesome getting to know them, their families and tell them about God. I hope that we get to do it again next time we come, because I think it is so important for the communities to have that constructive place, and honestly, so important for us to see what they are doing and that they are a blessing to us. Doing the food deliveries was also amazing- though heavy. I was once again reminded of how little they have- yet they have so much faith, love and joy to give. It is truly a testament to God, and filled my cup. I came home with a renewed sense of faith and community (even though re entry has been a little more difficult this time around).

A couple of things that made this not a 5 Star review. The first is that we have a packing list from mission discovery, which of course has some modesty pieces. I was very surprised to see on the first day that two people from Mission Discovery was wearing a tank top that obviously went against the recommendations on the packing list, and it even had Mission Discovery's logo. We really push hard in our meetings about the modesty piece, and of course look at you list as a large piece of that. It is hard to defend things that people in our group wanted to bring but we said they couldn't when the organization is not "walking the walk". One of the other groups were wearing shorts at the worksite that their t shirts covered. Perhaps this was addressed and that was all they had with them, but it just stung a bit- I would have loved to be in comfy shorts and a tank top, but wasn't because I have been on multiple trips and take the cultural sensitivity to heart.
I also was a bit bothered by Drew and how intrusive the cameras felt. I absolutely understand that perhaps Mission Discovery needs content to put yourselves out there, but a heads up and an explanation of what was happening would be helpful. Without that, it felt like some very sacred moments were being broken.

We did struggle a bit with the other groups, but I don't feel that is a Mission Discovery issue, that is more just awareness and a prayer for patience issue.

Overall, I love Mission Discovery. The relationships we have built since 2001 are incredible, and I hope they just continue to grow.

God Moved Through Chaos

While the people were working, there was no real conflict. Rather, we were united by a common goal: to make Christ known through our actions. If not for the God sightings, I would have thought the trip far less eventful, but that specific time for people to share how God had worked in their day opened my eyes to how God worked in mine. The trip planning was chaotic although almost everything had a resolution, and I was so blessed to get to work with y'all.

I’m am grateful for the opportunity to meet the families who came to our clinic, often traveling hours from the surrounding area. Many mornings we were greeted by folks sitting patiently outside awaiting our arrival. It is a gift to meet the gaze of someone telling their story with more than words , gestures and hope, and then listen to our interpreters translate for us.
Smiles and laughter and tears of joy were exchanged along with guidance, vitamins, socks and medicine.

Great experience

Great experience, the guides were quite prepared.

More unstructured time than needed and less information given before hand than desirable though.

2025 Bluefield WV Mission Trip

We had another amazing mission trip to Bluefield, WV. Josh and Allison did an exceptional job managing the week, coordinating all of the worksites and leading us in Praise and Worship. Everything was well organized so we were able to work, get to know the homeowners, fellowship, spend time in prayer and worship. it was also great to be back at the Church again this year. Overall, I would highly recommend a mission trip to WV, disconnect from the world and spend some time with Jesus and Loving others.
