Don't Believe What You Read! Buyer Beware!!

June 2025 I bid on and won a "new" (as described on the website) compact telescope. I drove out to Scarborough to pick it up and needed to be quick to get back as my wife needed the car. I picked up what looked like a new package and took it home. The next day I unpacked the box to find the telescope was missing pieces and the scope itself was misaligned so did not function. I contac ted MaxSold and was told that since I did not make a complaint at the pick up they would not refund my purchase. The did not address the incorrect statement that led to me buying the telescope in the first place. I have purchased a lot of things on this site, some good, some not so much but I always felt the descriptions were fair. I will never use this site again.

Do not sell with MaxSold

Do not sell with MaxSold. The juice isn’t worth the squeeze. Best case scenario is you spend several hours to make a few bucks. Worst case scenario, you spend time photographing, uploading items and captions, and then take time out of another day for the pickup window (4ish hours), and somehow owe THEM money.

Sell your items on Marketplace, have a garage sale, give them away. But don’t waste your energy or precious time with this company.

Very disappointed First time seller

First time seller and Maxsold. I admittedly misread the commission fees and thought it was the lower of 30% or $300. In fact that it is the opposite where they take the higher of the two so when all bids start a dollar it’s really difficult to make it up to the thousand dollar mark to actually make some money. Even when the agent called me, because they do hound you, I was left with the understanding that it was actually the lower of the two. To my surprise I receive bill at the end for $33 because I only sold $266 worth of items. If you know your stuff is going to sell high sure you might make some money otherwise you’re better off to stay from maxsold and stick with marketplace, eBay or Kijiji or whatever other app is around.

REAL struggle to sell more than the…

REAL struggle to sell more than the $300 commission. This is because bids start at $1.00. It isn't worthwhile to do an auction for a loss, or give away new items for $1.00 or just make enough to cover the commission. Also buyers create dangerous pickup situations that can lead to insurance claims for the seller by ignoring their pickup time and overcrowding. Maxsold has not been willing to help make pickup safer for all buyers and sellers especially seniors and children.

No refunds for broken items

I bought a lamp described as "great condition," and wanted to test it on-site at pickup. The Maxsold employees denied entry to the house to anyone who asked, and there was no outdoor electrical plug. Upon taking the item home, it did not turn on, and I noticed the lamp was actually quite dented on one side, which surprised me that I hadn't noticed before bidding. I compared it to the auction photos and it was not dented in the photos, so my guess is it fell in the meantime and was broken. I explained this in the claim form and was denied a refund because I didn't complain at pickup, where I was unable to even plug it in to test. The people at the pickup site were pleasant and the man ahead of me had already had a heated exchange trying to get into the house to test another item, so I didn't repeat the fight, but I knew there was no way I'd be permitted to plug in the lamp without leaving. I'm quite disappointed in the ethics of the exchange from Maxsold, and I'm disappointed I can no longer trust them to describe items accurately.

5 Stars but devastating theft

Giving Maxsold 5 Stars because have always had a good experience with auctions I've participated in.
HOWEVER THEY GET 1 Star for my latest devastating auction pick up 5/3/2025 in Beverly Hills.
I had purchased and won a very valuable lot of perfume bottles that were not there when I arrived for the pick up. The lot of 16 perfume bottles had been allowed to be taken by another bidders. Correction stolen. The team on site scrambled and avoided me then directed me to the girl at the check-in. I requested that we call the police as this was a theft and they advised me that we don't know if it's a theft someone may have accidentally taken a valuable lot of perfume bottles. They were reaching out to bidders to see if someone accidentally took them and if so, please return the lot. Yes a thief is gonna return what they stole. Total incompetence
Maxsold FAILED not follow their protocol policy of requiring ID upon pick up . With only two people working the inside for bidders picking up, there was inadequate monitoring of lots that were valuable. These perfume bottles were just set out on a table when they should have been put in a safe secure place until I arrived. As an eBay seller I spent hours researching the lot and I know the resale value was well over $2000. I have incurred a significant loss of income for projected sales given I don't have the items to sell now. I will continue to address this heartbreaking situation with heads of a Maxsold and hope to come to a desired resolution.
Bottom line is I believe this was an inside job!
I will continue to participate in Maxsold auctions because I have found amazing deals, but I do expect respect from Maxsold on their incompetent failure to follow their own policies.

Absolutely worse service I have ever…

Absolutely worse service I have ever experienced in an auction, be careful when you guy from this site, especially if the items if of precious metals or similar, even if they describe the item as gold, it might very well not be, they expect you to bring a specialist or be able to test it yourself when you pick it up, if not even if they sold you a normal metal instead of gold, I advice extreme caution when buying on this site.

When a item states "needs Cleaning"…

When a item states "needs Cleaning" should be more specific, when the items are covered with mouse feces.. also when a brand name is listed ,the items should match the brand name.. I requested a refund for half, but was denied because i did not complain on site.. i wanted to put on gloves before i handled anything when i saw the amount of mouse feces in the kitchen where my items were located.. I ended up discarding everything i picked up from the auction

MaxSold is an online auction company

MaxSold is an online auction company. Buyer BEWARE!!! Anything that has to run, whether it’s mechanical or electrical or whatever. MaxSold will not protect the buyer. Sellers can and do sell damaged and non functioning items. The buyer has little to no recourse. The seller should be responsible for the item and the refund and the MaxSold costs.
Testing it on pickup is useless. You’ve already paid and then it’s a confrontation with the people at the site. And they aren’t going to refund you.

As a seller

As a seller, we used the MAXSOLD managed sale. It was a terrible experience and never again. The overall work was poor quality - the pictures for cataloguing was blurry and had flashes, the descriptions of items were incorrect with grammar and spelling mistakes. We needed to micro manage the entire thing. Even then, our requests to correct the mistakes were not done properly!

When the team came over to photograph, it seemed like they got lazy over a period of time as the images got worse and worse. We did so much of the work in the end, the $2000 fee was a complete waste of money. Alot of our comments on the items were not included and the number of emails asking they to correct the work was appalling. DO NOT used MAXSOLD managed service.

Dear MaxSold Support,

Dear MaxSold Support,

I’m reaching out regarding the fees applied to my auctions. Due to a misunderstanding about your fee structure, I’ve lost valuable items, nearly gave them away for free, and still owe money. When I signed up, I was told the fee was 30%, but I was not informed about the $300 minimum fee, which has caused significant financial and emotional distress.

I value MaxSold as a platform and want to continue working with you in the future, but I kindly ask you to review my previous auctions and adjust the fees to 30%. This would help restore my trust and allow me to confidently participate in more sales.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

Sincerely,
Andrii Zelenchuk

Bait and Switch Scam

I won an auction on Maxsold for a porcelain vase and wood stand. I paid for it and made an appointment to collect it. The vase was described as Antique Japanese. I am an antique dealer specializing in Asian porcelain and stands. It was obvious from the Maxsold photos that the vase was fraudulently represented as antique (it was modern, and worth very little). The wood stand however was authentic, and worth $200-300. ie, I won this lot for the valuable wood stand, NOT the fake Japanese vase. My pickup appointment was at 10am (the first available pick up time). I was first in line, and the first person picking up (I got there early, and the line formed behind me). The seller then told me they had given the stand to someone else by mistake (pretty hard when I was the first in line!). They then tried to pass me off with the fake vase. When that didn't work, they admitted they realized I probably won this lot for the stand (apparently they recognized my name). I got scammed on Maxsold. This scam is simple. A worthless and valuable item are listed together on Maxsold. If the auction lot sells for a lot of money, then you get both. If it goes for a low price, then you are offered the worthless part only. I left the worthless vase with the seller. This scam cost me an hour of my time driving back and forth, plus the time bidding on the item. Plus the time dealing with Maxsold to try and get my money back. The only reason Maxsold gets 1 star, is because there is no option for Zero.

There website says that if a I'd is…

There website says that if a I'd is placed in the last 2 mins it will reset and extend the bidding. It did not do this for the item I was bidding on. I reset the page constantly in the last 2 mins to make sure I was still winning. At the 11 seconds left mark it informed me I had been out bid. I went to make a new bid. The website went to an error page and I lost my item ni don't ever plan to use there service again and based on many review sites I'm not alone in this experience.

Have purchased manny things in the past…

Have purchased many things in the past with little or no problems , but yesterday was a disaster. Found the place per their map, could not find any parking spot let alone one with wheel chair access. There was no sign out front identifying this building as the correct spot, no sign inside the location. It was closed, no staff, no owner, until some one called Maxsold, when the owner came he was not prepared, he also had a different time on his sheet that he showed me, day light saving time I assume. He asked all to be patient and need about 20 minutes to get ready, I had another event to pick up as well, which put me behind, not pleased in the least . Extremely poor planning.
