TL;DR: ID mishandled, card compromised, profiling comment made. Fraud followed within minutes. Gross negligence--or something worse. Avoid.
When a business earns the trust and open recommendation of a loyal, discerning customer, it assumes a serious responsibility to honor that confidence. What a close family friend experienced here, however, profoundly compromised that trust--and compels this warning for future clientele.
Upon arrival, staff requested a driver's license and credit card--standard protocol. The license was not returned, left behind on the company's scanner--whether through carelessness or intent.
Within moments of exiting the premises, unauthorized charges began appearing: over $44 at Panera Bread (a two-minute walk), another at Wawa, and several attempted transactions through Steam.
Whether this reflects gross negligence or something more deliberate, the convergence of timing, location, and a clear breach of protocol speaks for itself.
To make matters worse, the same employee who processed check-in made a tone-deaf, thinly veiled comment about a nearby liquor store--a subtle but unmistakable act of profiling. Remarks like that have no place in any professional setting, least of all one where clients are expected to disrobe and entrust their physical and emotional safety to strangers.
Massage therapy should be unequivocally grounded in trust, dignity, and discretion. No woman--or person--should exit a wellness space questioning the safety of her identity, her financial security, or her humanity.
My mother entrusted this establishment with her own care, and in doing so, extended that trust to someone she valued. That trust was violated.
Until this location can demonstrate measurable improvements in staff conduct, client treatment, and data handling protocols, I strongly urge others--especially women--to reconsider entrusting their bodies, time, or information to this business.

Horrible receptions customer service
I took my mom for a massage and I have to say to all of the massage therapist who gave my mom her services were great. On the other hand the receptionist that were there at this location are far from professional and very rude. Specifically Julia who sat there and trash talked a client on the phone after hanging up with her as I sat there and waited for my mom. I could hear all of her giggles and complaints about the person on the phone and was very unprofessional, rude, and to be honest with you very childish in my opinion. There is a sign on the wall that says everything is being monitored by cameras and audio The owner of this location should go back and look at their employees on how they treat the clients. People like this should not be working in the front if it is the first face you see you already put a very bad vibe coming into your doors. You should reconsider the type of people who greet your clients. Just because they say the right words like if it's a script it's the tone of voice that they have and the attitude behind it that matters It doesn't matter if what you say is nice it's how you say it and how you come across to your clients that matter. I have a membership with massage envy this was the location that I did it through and the reason why I do not get my services myself here because of the front staff. The only reason why I came here was because the massage therapist that I had placed for my mom was Latin as she does not speak English and she had already done my massage the first time and I know that she is great other than that I will never come to this location again.

I went in for a "Relaxing" massage
I went in for a "Relaxing" massage. Eventhough that is what I requested when I booked it, when checked in and what told the therapist, that is not what I received.
I specifically told the "therapist" that I wanted a relaxing massage and that I didn't to leave feeling worse than when I came in.
I mentioned that he was going deeper than what I wanted, twice during the session. Near the end of the session, I was on my back and he grabbed my left wrist with both hands a pulled hard! Hard enough that I started to slide on the table. Then he did same thing on my right wrist.
Over the years, I've had 10 to 12 massages. I've never experienced anything like that. The pain my left shoulder started that evening and continued for week, before I booked an appointment with my Primary Care Physician. Ultimately, I will need shoulder surgery end the pain and regain the feeling in my left had.
I've been told that I should consult with an attorney about this. I'm not interested in getting involved with a lawsuit, I just want the pain and numbness to end. I'm 75 and I think I've had .y last massage. At least my last one from Massage Envy!

Melissa J
Melissa J. is a great therapist who always gets the right spot and consistently asks about pressure and comfort. Getting an appointment with her is hard because she is in high demand. That's how good she is.

Maria - One of the best Therapist
I would like to give my recommendation to Maria (my therapist) she always listen to me and concentrate in the areas that I am most concerned. I really could say that I never had any bad experience with her. She is always very pleasant and professional..

Can’t recommend
This is for massage envy in corona, California near Stater Bros. My boyfriend wanted to treat me for a massage on Valentine’s Day. Should have been relaxing. The thearapist was good, however, the NOISE of men working right outside the room with buckets, laughter and talking very loud, the girls laughing at the men…I mean OH MY LORD how that was annoying and I did never relax. Did not dare to interrupt the lady working on me, she was so concentrated.
Will not come back!

Review for Massage Envy
Review for Massage Envy - 7386 Harbour Towne Pkwy
I recently had a frustrating experience at Massage Envy that I feel compelled to share. I was gifted several hours for massages, which should have been a relaxing experience, but it turned into a nightmare.
When I attempted to use my gifted hours, I was informed that I needed to provide a credit card to have on file. Their policy dictates that they charge your card if you miss an appointment—not that I ever intended to miss one. Despite my assurances, they refused to allow me to proceed without a credit card.
This wouldn’t be an issue if I hadn’t had a terrible experience with them in the past. The last time my credit card was on file, I was charged hundreds of dollars for a membership I wasn't using. Their policy states that if you don’t cancel your membership, they will continue to charge you, and if you do cancel, you lose any remaining hours. I lost over 60 hours of massages because of this, and I’m not willing to risk that again.
Because of this past ordeal, I’m understandably hesitant to provide my credit card information again. Now, my gifted hours are essentially worthless, and I’m left feeling frustrated and unheard.
I cannot recommend Massage Envy based on my experiences. If you value your time and money, look elsewhere for your massage needs.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS PLACE
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS PLACE! I bought a gift card for my Mother in Law for Christmas. She called to book the appointment and got scheduled. Today was the appointment but she called to let them know she’d be late. They told her if she wasn’t there by 12:01 they’d cancel the appointment and charge her $125 for the missed appointment, they were very rude to her.
If I didn’t have to give stars I wouldn’t.

Massage Envy- Chester NJ
DO NOT BECOME A MEMBER! Once you sign up to be a member they make it INSANELY difficult to cancel. In March I received a call from a Brianna at the Chester Massage Envy. She left me a voicemail stating I had been accruing sessions (meaning they have been charging me almost $100 a month even though I had not been going "per the contract"). I immediately called back and requested a refund for at least the most recent few I hadn't used. I was told that they could not do that. I tried to negotiate canceling while still being able to use some of the remaining services I had already paid for. I was told I couldn't do that either. Ultimately, they froze my membership for 6 months, which wouldnt charge me but allow me to try to use some of the accrued sessions I had paid for that I had not used. In September, I called back. I said I really would like to cancel. Ive had a new job and I just really cant get there. I spoke with Olivia. Yet again they would not let me cancel. They stated they would freeze for 2 more months. I at this point don't trust this, so I request they remove my debit card for auto charging from their systems. Today I see a charge from them for the almost $100. It is showing as pending so they JUST put it through. I called immediately and get Nicole on the phone who claims she is the assistant manager. Nicole states that she will not refund me because I am on a month to month contract. I tried to explain the above, that I have called NUMEROUS TIMES to try to cancel and have not be able to. She stated that she did not have a cancelation form from me.... WELL DUH! No one I have spoken to has allowed me to have one. She also stated she doesn't see any notes in her system that I have called to request a cancelation before. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!??!?! She ALSO stated that she did not see a request for me to remove my debit card for their system. This all sounds like ways they get around continuing to charge you and not refund you. They are essentially scamming me I feel like. So Nicole (the assistant manager), cant refund me until she speaks with the manager- who get this...Is apparently the one I talked to in March originally that never wrote the notes down about my wanting to cancel.
Complete Bull!!! NEVER GO HERE! If I could give 0 I would. I am furious with how they treat me like I am the one doing something wrong because I cant just get them to CANCEL MY MEMBERSHIP ALREADY!!!!!
Lastly- Nicole stated she would FINALLY remove my card from their system and send me a cancelation form but not refund me the charge they JUST placed even though she knows I WILL NOT use it and HAVE NOT used it. Yet, I still have no email for this cancelation form they keep stating they need me to sign to RELEASE ME FROM MY HORRIBLE MEMBERSHIP! Let's see if I yet again get another charge next month. Either way, I am not the one and I will post this review everywhere.

I had a great experience a the park…
I had a great experience a the park slope location. amanda was absolutely incredible!
she listened to my concerns and gave me a therapeutic massage that truly helped my back and next pain. I feel so much better. thanks!!
also, the staff was welcoming and the facility is pretty clean and relaxing.
some minor logistical issues through: inconsistencies in appointment start times, some technical issues with the massage table. not a deal-breaker but can definitely be improved!

DO NOT SIGN UP!
Like many of the other reviews on this site, my wife joined and was unable to get appointments except rarely. She tried to cancel several times, but the charges kept coming. Finally, they stoped charging, then after 4 months, the charges reappeared on her charge card. Do not do business with this company. A total scam.

If I could give a negative stars
If I could give a negative stars, I would I joined the membership in September, which was a great visit, but ever since then it has been nothing but a hassle to try to get something scheduled. I have had massages scheduled only to be canceled multiple times by Massage Envy, I spoke to a so-called manager who was very friendly and I thought helped me work this out but today when I go for my monthly massage I’m told I owe the amount for the massage because my points don’t start till tomorrow. When I set this up, I should have been informed that my point system didn’t start till a certain day. This was set up through Ashanti , I am extremely disappointed in the professionalism of this company. The employees have been friendly. It is not their fault but DO NOT get the MEMBERSHIP unless you want to end up with more stress trying to schedule a damn massage. I even bought my mother a gift card for Christmas , but now I do not want her to have to go through the hassle of trying to deal with setting up an appointment at several locations and given the runaround like I have been. I do not recommend this company.

Zero stars
Zero stars. Clarissa the “manager” Mellissa and Jasmine treated me with so much disrespect over a miscommunication of a booked appointment. They were very argumentative and passive aggressive. When I asked for cooperates number Jasmine wrote down their number and said there was no corporate and if I wanted to complain the only person I can talk to is her or someone from that location. I will never step foot in there again. The management is very ghetto and ratchet. They do not care about hospitality or trying to make things work or find a solution. I googled the corporate number and reached out to them and let them know I will be formally filing a complaint with the better business bureau. Do NOT come here if you’re looking to be treated with professionalism and respect. Horrible people.

Ongoing charges after my mother's death
My mother was a client of Massage Envy South Florida on Red Road for a year before she died unexpectedly and tragically. When I alerted Massage Envy to my mother's passing, they dragged their feet taking months to cancel her subscription and charged her card for months after her death. When they finally responded to my emails they proceeded to cancel my mother's account so that I could not transfer her accrued credits to a new account. The result was that they got away with taking over $1,000 from my family during a period of deep loss when they knew exactly what our situation was. I have raised the issue with the Florida Attorney General, the Better Business Bureau, and the Miami-Dade County Consumer Protection. I am considering legal options because of how bad a taste this whole episode has left in my mouth. Please consider upvoting this review so it gains more attention. The employees in this location are polite and most of them understood that what their manager (at the direction of their owner) was doing to me was wrong. I am genuinely disappointed that people could see a son in grief and not work to do the right thing for a family experiencing difficulties.

You should NEVER use Massage Envy
You should NEVER use Massage Envy. The whole franchise is a huge scam. The location in O’Fallon,IL is a joke!! They take customer’s money monthly and if you cancel membership, they keep all money. Their services are poor and massages are horrible. I will never go back and urge everyone to cancel their membership and NOT TO EVER GO to a Massage Envy location ever!!!!

STAY AWAY!! It is a SCAM!
Where do I begin? Stay away from this company and take your business elsewhere unless you want your money stolen in exchange for absolutely nothing. The manager at the Arvada West location is not fit for her role as she has a difficult time articulating her thoughts, navigating through complex scenarios, and is absolutely agonizing to communicate with.
From the masseuses to the front desk staff - it is apparent that they only care about upselling you products, facials, memberships, etc. My Husband and I purchased a six month membership at $85 per month. In those six months, we were only able to successfully book two massages.
To date, we have paid over $1,000 for a total of two massages. Every time we called to book a massage (at multiple locations) we were told they were no openings as they were booked for two months or more. My card had multiple unauthorized charges when I explicitly asked them to stop charging my card. In addition, their monthly dues have gone up from $85 to $90 per month (unbeknownst to us) with no email or notice to be found or given.
So here we are. When attempting to explain our frustration to the manager - her initial recoil was defensive and accusatory with an abrupt retort reminding us that we signed a waiver. Great customer service.
It is so sad to think that the $1,000 my Husband and I spent on an experience we intended as a reprieve was wasted on nothing when it could have been put toward our savings, toward a vacation, toward our family, or literally anywhere where your money is actually exchanged for goods and services.
Be weary - they will lure you in with 'your first two months free' on a six month membership term. What they don't tell you is that you is that you will never, ever be able to book an appointment because they are short-staffed and overbooked at every single location. Those two out of six months 'free'? You will still be paying for six months worth of dues - all it does is delay your payment cycle. When you try to express your frustration with their lack of availability and unauthorized charges? They will simply tell you it is part of the agreement you signed.
My Husband went to the Arvada West location in person to pay the remainder of our balance, inquire around the unauthorized charges, and to cancel our membership. The manager refused to speak to him, refused to collect our payment and stated 'I am going to take care of my actual customer' (we are not customers now?).
My Husband again asked to pay the balance and asked for an itemized receipt of the total charges to date as well as a summary of any outstanding balance. The manager refused and stated that she escalated our cancellation request to her supervisor. We have yet to hear from them.
My Husband was appalled and reiterated he just wanted to pay his remaining balance. She refused to allow him to pay.
Needless to say, we will never be back and I will be smearing Massage Envy Arvada West on every platform imaginable. Save yourself the headache, time, energy, and money. If you don't have tension in your body, you can be rest assured you will if you opt for a membership at Massage Envy.

Never going back
They hire mostly old boney therapists that don’t know how to give a massage. Also, when they shorted my session by 20 minutes, the manager came out and defended themselves instead of trying to make things better with me. I’m never going back.

SCAM! Do not become a member or book a session
I used to love this place when I first became a member in 2019, but unfortunately, my experience has turned sour. They have stolen sessions and money from me and refuse to respond to any of my emails or phone calls. This includes Lauren Skipper, the Regional Manager, and Joe Szablewski, the Owner. I strongly advise you to stay away from this establishment. The leadership is poor, and they consistently avoid addressing the truth. If you face similar issues, consider consulting a lawyer to reclaim what you're owed. This includes the Bellevue location as it is operated and owned by the same people. I was promised a call back for my missing sessions and was told sessions disappear often and they have to go back and track what happened to it. Thank God I recorded that conversation with the manager at Bellevue! They are SCAMMERS! They steal your credits and avoid you when you call them out on it. Also, the turnover rate is high at Massage Envy. They can not keep their employees hired. I kept in contact with some of the therapists I liked to avoid the rude management and staff at the desk. The admired workers are the therapists. There is several reviews from ex employees that confirmed massage envy biggest $$$ profit is from unused sessions and massage envy steals from the customers all the time. Please find another business to get your facials and massages done. Massage envy is a WASTE of your money. Don't be fooled by the prices. Just keep scrolling and reading all the bad reviews.
