Hi Komal - we are sorry you feel this way. We did indeed pay over $30,000 in claims to you, along with providing an ample discount from United Healthcare to lower your out of pocket expense.

In the future- if you want better coverage for pre-existing conditions, we suggest enrolling in the Hop Trip Assist Plus plan, which covers 80% for pre-existing conditions up to $300,000.

Beware of deception and negligence

I paid a hefty premium to ensure comprehensive coverage (VIP plan: $100,000 medical assistance, $2,000 for pre-existing conditions) for my mother who was visiting me in the US. In the middle of her visit, my mother fell ill and started experiencing severe chills and shivering, so we decided to visit the ER given her pre-existing conditions. She underwent a plethora of tests and was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection (UTI). 6 months later, I received a jaw-dropping hospital bill totaling $10,000. Hop denied my claim for the bill citing that that my mother's hypertension was a precursor to UTI and was categorized as a pre-existing condition, leaving me to shoulder the exorbitant financial burden alone.

The sheer callousness and negligence displayed by Hop! Insurance is nothing short of appalling. The blanket assertion that hypertension alone serves as a precursor to UTIs lacks scientific basis and specificity. and ignores the multifactorial nature of this condition. By arbitrarily attributing a medical condition to a loosely defined pre-existing condition without any scientific evidence, they callously dismissed the urgent nature of my situation and disregarded the fundamental purpose of insurance—to provide essential healthcare support in times of need. Their actions have not only left me grappling with the financial strain of an unjustly inflated hospital bill but also shattered my trust in the insurance system as a whole.

I urge anyone considering Hop to exercise extreme caution. It is abundantly clear that their primary concern lies not in serving the best interests of policyholders but in maximizing profits at the expense of customer well-being. Trusting them with your healthcare coverage may prove to be a costly mistake—one that could leave you grappling with the consequences for years to come.

Thank you for your feedback. Due to confidentiality of the medical records, we are unable to provide more details here. However, some general observations - The HOP VIP memberships is NOT Insurance but a travel assistance program designed to help travelers when they get sick unexpectedly during the trip. It is not designed to handle prolonged care of the travelers. The claims of the above member were processed according to the membership agreement provided to the member when they enrolled in the Travel Assistance membership. The claims were adjudicated as per the membership agreement which limits assistance to pre-existing related issues to a maximum of $2000. There is an abundant scientific literature in the medical field fully discusses the issues the member raised above and their relationship to UTI in general. Overall, 100% of the assistance was provided as per the assistance promised by the travel assistance company ($2000 max for pre-existing conditions related sickness) and UHCPPO benefits.

Highly recommend it

I'm loving the UX on Hop!

I'm loving the UX on Hop!, seems like a major improvement over the previous experience.

In particular, I love how quickly I can generate a quote, and how much more sense all the terms make (as someone who has no experience the health insurance industry in the US)
