Downloaded the app in So FL and within an hour we had connected to a captain and booked our excursion. Pretty flawless experience. User friendly app and great concept.

Dolly (blue marina)

Dolly

This is our second time on Punta Cana using the get my boat and this time around was a horrible experience for a birthday trip. We started late and ended early, we expected to be on the water 3 hrs only to get 2 hours. The experience getting on the boat was unorganized and caused my anxiety to kick in to the point I never got in the water. I understand this was a busy holiday weekend however you should never overlook the importance of good customer service and customer service satisfaction.O

KEITH IS A SCAM ‼️DO NOT BOOK/RENT WITH HIM - LAKE NORMAN IN NORTH CAROLINA

KEITH ON LAKE NORMAN NORTH CAROLINA IS A SCAM‼️⚠️VERY RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL!!!

Extremely Unprofessional and Disappointing Experience – Do Not Recommend

My friends and I — a group of women healthcare workers — rented this boat for a birthday celebration and were extremely disappointed by how unprofessionally the situation was handled by the boat driver, Keith.

We drove two hours from out of town to Mooresville, NC, with two full SUVs and food prepared to enjoy a relaxing day on the water. The boat was advertised as including a grill and a bathroom, which made it ideal for our celebration. The person who booked the boat kept Keith updated every step of the way, including when we were leaving and when we were expected to arrive. Unfortunately, he stopped responding entirely once we told him we were on the way. Not thinking anything about it…because he could have been preparing the boat or even enjoying his day before taking the boat out, we decided to continue our trip and make ways down there.

Just ten minutes before our scheduled rental time, Keith abruptly canceled the trip due to a passing summer rainstorm. We had been watching the weather all day and even asked him if the small storm would affect the trip — again, no response. The rain itself was very short-lived and mild; we even called another marina in Mooresville (“Stay and Play”) who told us they were still sending boats out/ not canceling any boats - because it was just a typical summer storm. Mind you- when we arrived the lake was full of boats and jet skis!!!

Despite this, Keith refused to let us board, was rude and hostile over the phone, and aggressively reminded us that we would not be getting a refund. He claimed he “couldn’t control the weather,” yet he was the one who canceled — not us — and he made no effort to delay or adjust the time even though conditions improved shortly after.

What made it worse was how uncomfortable and disrespected we felt after his hostile attitude toward us on the phone. As a group of women, we no longer felt safe or welcomed to be on a boat with someone acting so aggressively.

We were left sitting in our cars eating the food we prepared for the trip, disappointed and frustrated after weeks of planning and anticipation. To be denied a refund for a cancellation that was out of our control — and made unilaterally by the driver — is unacceptable.

I would not recommend this service to anyone. The lack of communication, professionalism, and basic courtesy was shocking. This experience ruined a special day for our group, and we sincerely hope others are spared from the same treatment. We had no clue this would happen to us due to all his good reviews…but now, we want to spare others from losing their hard earned money and time from Keith!! If I could give no stars I WOULD!! This is absolutely unacceptable and no one deserves to go through this!

DO NOT RENT WITH KEITH on Lake Norman

DO NOT RENT WITH KEITH on Lake Norman. He was very unprofessional, cancelled our reservation for a group of 12 people at the last minute, the time of our reservation all because of a little rain.. 1,100 dollars was spent for this and he did not offer a refund or any type of compensation for this matter. He was also extremely rude when discussing this matter. Stay far away!

Owner cancelled after we showed up

Owner Keith in lake Norman NC cancelled after we showed up. $1100 rental. Owner waited until 10 minutes before arrival to say he was cancelling for a thunderstorm. (We drove 2 hours away). I messaged the owner multiple times up until the day of sail regarding supplies and weather. Day of said weather did not call for thunderstorms. I let owner know 3:41pm we were on our way and would arrive at 4:55. Set to sail 5pm. Owner messaged on app at 4:40 he was cancelling. During this time I was also texting owner because I hadn’t heard anything from him. I asked owner since we paid could we wait 1 hour or even 30 minutes for storm to pass because it was only scheduled until 5:20. Owned refused. We stayed at lake and by 5:30 rain had left. I called other marinas (stay and play) and they stated it was just a “normal summer storm” and that they were looking at the radar and wouldn’t be calling any boats off. On phone owner became hostile. He told me he couldn’t control the weather. I asked for a refund. He said he could only reschedule. I told him I didn’t feel comfortable rescheduling because what if we planned and drove again that far and he cancelled for another quick shower? He cussed at me (told me he “didn’t have my * money”) so he couldn’t give me a refund. I asked who had it, he said “whoever you booked it through”. He kept saying my name over and over speaking over me as I was trying to be calm. I had a suburban full of 7 other passengers all women. He continued to say “can I say something, can I say something” he said this atleast 10 times while I sat silent on the phone as if he was chastising me like a child. I told him that we are all women and none of us would feel comfortable sailing with his captian or renting from him because of how hostile he was acting. At the beginning of the conversation I explained to Keith that I myself am a business owner and personally I feel like he could have done a few things way better. I explained how I messaged him on the app the last few days and he did not respond. I asked why hadn’t he used better communication if he claimed all week he had watched the weather and knew there was a chance of cancellation. I also told him how I saw that he had a lot of great reviews, and as a business owner it’s not worth the bad review. This is before he became hostile. After Keith became aggressive with the conversation I didn’t want to continue the conversation, and told him to have a good day, and ended the conversation. He subsequently sent me a video of the rain and a screenshot of “lake Norman of Iredell” calling for light rain until 7. We were at his marina in Mooresville. This was a very bad experience for me. I rent boats each year from marinas for my birthday, and this trip took a lot of preparation. I feel as though he could have atleast waited for 30 min for the storm to pass, since we already paid for the time. I even asked if when it stopped raining if we could set up the food on his boat because we had nowhere to eat it. (This is why we stayed there and ate food inside our vehicles and watched the rain pass).
Now way any of us feel comfortable renting from this gentleman. Now I am having to fight with getmyboat on getting my $1100 back for a trip Keith marked “complete”.

Much-Improved Support — But Still Room to Grow for Boat Owners

GetMyBoat consistently fails to support hosts when renters violate clearly stated policies. I submitted claims with full documentation — including receipts, photos, and a police report — and was told to wait days for renters to “maybe” respond. Charges expired, timelines reset, and I kept getting different answers from every rep I spoke to. It’s a complete loop of delay with zero accountability.

Support hosts the same way you support renters. Enforce stated policies without endless delays. Process legitimate charges from the security deposit when full documentation is provided, especially if renters are unresponsive. Hosts should not have to beg or wait 6+ days for basic reimbursements.

[UPDATE:]
After a long string of delays, repeated follow-ups, and formal complaints, GetMyBoat has resolved my outstanding claims — one for a fuel reimbursement, the other for damage requiring a security deposit hold. I appreciate that both were eventually addressed.

However, it should not have taken over a week, multiple escalations, and relentless pressure just to get the platform to enforce policies that were already clearly stated in my listing and backed by full documentation.

The current claims process still places the burden entirely on the host, with generic replies, shifting expectations (like needing to repeat listing info in messages), and inconsistent support guidance. It's stressful, time-consuming, and simply not scalable for hosts trying to run a business.

I’m leaving this review up because while I’m glad my specific situation was resolved, the broader platform experience still has serious flaws. If GetMyBoat improves its host support system across the board, I’ll be happy to revisit this rating.

Horrible for commercial operators

As a commercial boat tour operator, it's imperative to have open lines of communication with customers. Get My Boat hates this and blocks this and threatens with removal if you try to send ANY contact info or company identifiers out of fear they won't receive their slice of the pie. This is designed for bareboat Charters, a great many operating illegally with little checks and balances, leaving the Charterer in legal jeoordy. Currently working with many OTAs that's integrate with Fareharbor, the paid out commission issue/concern is easily resolved but this platform isn't really supportive of legitimate, commercially licensed and insured actual businesses. They create more headache and difficulty than any potential benefit. There are better platforms for commercial operators with less drama.

🚨 BEWARE OF ILLEGAL CHARTERS 🚨
There are lots of them everywhere, especially in South Florida and when you see a boat that takes more than 6 passengers, you need to start asking questions.
Know the difference before you book your next day on the water. Don't forget to ask to see the Captain's license and business licenses.

Florida is a paradise for boating — but not all charters are created equal. The U.S. Coast Guard and Homeland Security are cracking down on illegal charter operations that put passengers at risk. We operate fully licensed commercial charters, which means we follow strict federal regulations to ensure your safety, security, and peace of mind.

But not all boats you see advertised on social media or booking sites follow the rules. Many "bareboat charters" are being offered illegally — and most customers don't even realize it. A true bareboat charter requires:

✔️ The renter to have full control of the vessel
✔️ The renter to choose and pay the captain independently
✔️ The vessel to be properly insured for bareboat use
✔️ A maximum of 12 passengers
❌ No crew, fuel, food, or itinerary can be included by the owner

If the owner provides the captain or any services — it’s not a bareboat. It’s illegal. And your voyage could be shut down by law enforcement on the spot.

📲 Download the Coast Guard Investigative Service (CGIS) app to report suspicious activity.

Hi Matt,

Thank you for sharing your concerns.

Getmyboat supports both recreational and commercial operators — including fully licensed, insured businesses like yours. We understand how important direct communication is for managing bookings, and while we restrict contact info initially to ensure security and fair use, our goal is not to limit business — it’s to protect renters, ensure compliance, and maintain trust across the platform. We do welcome communication via our real-time in app messaging system for communication, and open communication once a booking is confirmed to ensure everything goes smoothly.

Regarding bareboat charters, we agree: illegal operations pose serious risks. That’s why we vet listings and educate both owners and renters about the clear distinctions and requirements under U.S. Coast Guard law. We appreciate your reminder to customers to verify credentials — it’s a message we actively promote. We have a direct relationship with the USCG and built tools to improve the safety of bareboat charters with their blessing.

If you're open to it, we’d welcome the chance to connect and better understand how we can improve the experience for commercial operators like you. We did request your contact information from TrustPilot but have been advised that you have not responded to them to provide contact details.
