Useless

I paid for nothing. I rented a room for a family member and the hotel refused to rent the the room to my family member as they didn't have the appropriate card the deposit though the room had been paid for. This insurance says that falls under me canceling the reservation and is not covered. Total sham.

Less than worthless travel insurance

Obtuse and cumbersome claim process seems designed to be a barrier between customers and their claims. They partner with other disreputable companies like Expedia. Talking to their incompetent and unempowered phone representatives only serves to clarify that they simply want your money, and will stack the deck against you when filing a claim every way they can.

I guess I'm lucky that I found out their true nature with a short weekend getaway, so am only out 300 bucks.

My company pays for month-long sabbaticals every five years, so I'll be certain not to work with any travel agency that uses Generali when relatively high value travel is at stake, and I also informed my company's travel department about Generali's trustworthiness so that others can avoid this same experience.

I purchased a travel protection plan…

I purchased a travel protection plan from Generali that came with a high premium, expecting a smoother and more supportive claims process. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.

When I needed to file a claim, the requirements were excessive and rigid. They demand physician documentation that can only be completed by an MD—completely impractical if you're away from home or dealing with urgent issues. Even straightforward travel delay claims were a hassle. Despite providing receipts and explanations, they denied reasonable expenses and were not flexible or empathetic.

The process was slow, overly complicated, and felt designed to discourage valid claims. In contrast, I've had much better experiences with Allianz—more efficient, more understanding, and far less red tape.

I won’t be purchasing travel insurance from Generali again.

Generali Global Assistance Should Be Investigated – Fraud Accusations Without Evidence, Support Denied During Emergency

Review:
Generali Global Assistance’s conduct has been nothing short of predatory, unethical, and emotionally damaging.

While traveling, my father required emergency surgery abroad. I submitted a claim under their policy—complete with medical documentation, translated hospital records, and identity verification. Instead of support, I was accused not once, not twice, but three separate times of fraud.

The first two accusations were completely refuted with official documentation, yet Generali refused to retract them or acknowledge their mistake. Instead of accountability, they doubled down—eventually denying the claim altogether based on a third, unverified accusation, citing unnamed “independent sources” and refusing to provide full documentation of their investigation.

They:
• Withheld my full claim file, citing “proprietary work product”
• Allegedly claimed that Iberia Airlines confirmed fraud—a statement I have formally challenged
• Continued to use aggressive legal language without substantiation
• Ignored multiple good-faith attempts to resolve the matter

I have escalated this to the Georgia Insurance Commissioner and initiated formal complaints. Their behavior amounts to bad faith insurance handling, reputational harm, and procedural manipulation during a time of serious crisis.

If you’re thinking of relying on Generali for emergency protection, don’t. Their actions caused severe emotional distress and financial harm when I was most vulnerable. This is not a company that stands by its policyholders.

double whammy of incompetent and dishonest

This company is the double whammy of incompetent and dishonest. I am only using them because they are the recommended partner when you host on the VRBO platform. Had a policy for a traveler, the guest destroyed our house. We had documentation, submitted the claim, they were supposed to pay us $1195. In the past, this process was pretty easy. They send you a link, you can access the funds in minutes. For some unexplained reason, they wanted to mail me a paper check. That was a month ago. No check, no follow up. I write them, several days later they blame the delay on the holidays and say it should be there. No check. They follow up and say they are going to reissue the check. I really need this money to pay bills and watching them play hide the ball with the money is dissapointing and dismaying. I called support today and they blamed the check delay on California burning. Despite the fact this claim was already settled 12/19/24. I still don't have the money

DO NOT PURCHASE THIS INSURANCE

I was offered this insurance when booked my hotel. I opted for it, but was not able to see any contract or guidelines prior to purchasing it (Expedia did not offer). Had I known that the exclusions were so INSANE, I would have never purchased the insurance OR booked with the hotel I booked with given their restrictive refund policy. Although the winter storm warning was not in effect for our area at the time I booked our trip, they denied the claim because IT WAS GIVEN A NAME before I booked. This is so unbelievably insane, but they are based out of California and the California board for insurance policies did just absolutely ruin thousands of lives by canceling fire coverage before the devastating fires that are currently taking place. This insurance is useless.

Generali Claim Number 24125030-01

Generali Policy Number: 24156W0379, Claim Number : 24125030-01 I was planning a trip with my wife starting September 7, 2024 and ending September 24,2024. I purchased trip insurance policy on June 4, 2024 as soon as I bought the airline tickets and resort. Air lines cancel 9/7/2024 flight and issued tickets for September 9, 2024 with return date of 9/26/2024. Morning of September 9, 2024 my wife became sick. We went to doctor’s office and were told that my wife has a virus and ear infection. Doctor stated that flight will be vey painful for my wife and we had to cancel our trip. Portion of airline ticket were refunded and resort was kind enough to transfer our reservations for next year so we didn’t have to claim total amount. All we claimed is about $500. On the same day September 9, 2024 I filed the claim with Generali, using their website and provided all requested documents. I received and immediately received email confirmation. On September 17, 2024 I received an email from Joanna Wedderburn from Generali Claims Department requesting additional information. I forwarded this information immediately. I tried to contact Joanna Wedderburn to discuss my claim. I was on hold for 30 minutes, but then I was forwarded to her voice mail. The message on the phone stated that someone will contact me within 24 hrs On September 18, 2024 I called again, after Joanna Wedderburn failed to return my call. This time I requested to be transferred to Claims Department Supervisor. I was told that her name is Cynthia Delgado. I was put on hold and disconnected after holding for 30 minutes. I dialed again and after 40 minutes of hold. The message on the phone stated again that someone will contact me within 24 hrs. So, I left a message. I was told, that refund may be forfeited, if I will not provide all requested information. First time I was contacted 8 days after filing claim. It is 11 days into my claim and Generali’s Claims department employees refuse to talk to me.

Doesn't look like their intent to reimburse me.

Disgusting and sad!

Zero customer service-won’t cover claims!

I purchased travel insurance for a trip to Australia. I had a dental emergency which resulted in oral surgery. My policy included Medical & Dental. I submitted all the materials requested and they will not cover the dental, only a cab ride. They’ve provided no reason why they won’t cover the dental bills. Do not use this company!
