First timer - Experience Overview

(Below is my "Original Review", but I'm amending due to the care, thoughtful outreach, and response of John, CEO of Five Star Alliance.)

After posting the original review, John contacted me directly very quickly by phone and email (I believe less than 1 hour). John was apologetic and asked questions to better understand what I experienced at the hotel. John jumped into action immediately, contacted the hotel GM, explained this was not at all the experience I should have had, and I was very impressed by his true care for customer experience. John and his team clearly care about their client's experiences and it was evident my experience was a rare one off, due to some challenges at the booked property (Not Five Star Alliance!).

The property, at check-out, refunded the "upgrade" fee (because I was not upgraded). For missing basically all special benefits of the contracted agreement with Five Star Alliance, the property also ended up refunding one night days after my stay. None of this would have occurred had John not held the property accountable for expectations of the booking. Again - Five Star Alliance really demonstrated customer advocacy, care, and protection. I would use Five Star Alliance again!

First timer - I fell for this.. I don’t know how this company curated such a stellar rating anywhere.

“ EXCLUSIVE FIVE STAR ALLIANCE PERKs” (lol!)

I booked the Five Star Alliance Perks rate and the Hotel acknowledged that but then said oh well, did not let me check in early without paying an extra fee, hotel did not give me any “gift”, I did not get any upgrade, I was not treated like a VIP in any regard. Better off booking direct or through regular agency. Will not use Five Star Alliance ever again. I did get breakfast and $100 credit (converted to 90 euros) but that is not special/unique to Five Star.

Dera Mr. Hanson, I am sorry that your experience was not up to your expectations. As stated on your confirmation with our 4th night free promotion upgrades and early check in are based on availability and not guaranteed. This is determined at check in by the hotel. If a the next room category was available its should have been offered "free of charge" If that wasn't available they may have been offering a fee on a higher category room. And that should of been properly communicated to you at check in. You should of received a welcome gift and been recognized as a VIP guest. We are communicating today to the General Manager of the Sofitel Munich Bayerpost your rightful disappointment. As you mention our review are flawless. This is based on our full commitment to our customers and we will get this resolved.

Professional, helpful, courteous, and friendly

I haven't made out of country reservations for years so was not sure what the web site was saying about several things. I received a timely call from John (although it would be nice if people just answered their phones these days- sigh. NOT a slam on John!!) He was VERY helpful, insightful, explained what I did not understand, booked my room and tried to get the three rooms that have been booked as close in proximity as possible. Hopefully, he will get back to me about an "accidental double booking"... I will be using Five Star Alliance again!
