Great Rower with a bad subscription service and clunky technology.

The Ergatta Rower in itself is a really excellent piece of equipment. Well built, good looking, smooth operation and makes for a fun and challenging workout. The one thing lacking and in a bad way I would have to say is the technology side of this unit. The screen is small, its a bit clunky to navigate and the cost of membership to use all the bells and whistles is an additional $39 a month that though they do not tell you, is paid for the year up front when you sign up for the service. Yes, it makes the experience better but after the cost of the machine which is not cheap they add insult to injury with this added cost. The subscription add on game is not new and I get that to maintain the backend of this it requires money, but why so much? Why not $25 a month? And why not allow a person to purchase this as a monthly service? Its just bad business to screw your customer base like this. It shows a lack of respect for the customer who has made your company successful buy buying and using your product.

Watch you subscription

The rower itself is nice looking and fun to use. We decided we weren't interested in the subscription for the game streaming, the website says you can cancel at any time. That's true, as long as you are okay with the cancelation taking affect on your next renewal date. That's not exactly what "you can cancel at any time" suggests.

Don't waste your money.

I purchased the rower in January of 2022. The delivery process was painful and took too much of my time quarterbacking the whole thing. I used the rower sparingly and due to some other health issues decided not to continue using it. They have a subscription model for the very poor quality games and competitions. I didn't notice the subscription renewal charge of $348 in February of 2023 until June so I requested a call to cancel my membership. I remember talking to the person but never received a confirmation of the cancellation. Well Feb of 2024 rolls around and I was charged $348 again for the membership, I didn't notice this one. Then again in 2025 I see a charge for $390 for the membership for a subscription that was cancelled 1.5 years earlier. Seven days after the charge I noticed it, and requested a call, they called me the following Monday just to say they will not refund my money without proof of the cancellation, which ironically I didn't receive. To be clear I was only asking for the 2025 charge to be refunded, I will eat the $348 from 2024 because I didn't see the emails sent to an account I don't use anymore, I also did not see the charge on my card and it had been too long to dispute. Point of the story is don't waste your money on this product. There are similar companies with much better customer service and more simple ways to cancel subscriptions. The difficulty in cancelling a subscription is a clear indication of unethical business practices. I'd like to throw the rower in the trash after today's experience but it cost me $2500 and I have a hard time throwing that amount away. I'll see what i can get for it on the used market.

No uk support

Bought this rower from their uk subsidiary (Waterrower.Co.uk). The usp for me was the gamification aspect of the rower, specifically the opportunity to have real time live races online with other users. However post-purchase I’ve discovered that the live races only happen in EDT timezone. This is middle of the night in the uk, so of no use to anyone in the uk.

The rower itself is great, but on the basis that I feel I’ve been mis-sold I have no option but to mark it down.
