Pleasant Surprise

I was quite pleasantly surprised by this knife, and I need to preface this by saying that I was very reluctant to even order it because of the deteriorating QC issues I have experienced In the recent past with Bark River. Most notably, the recently ordered knifes from them have had several issues with fit and finish along with several having plunge lines that were way off and tip grinds not matching; these are more than visual issues. I actually use my knifes and I consider these mechanical functional issues. I do realize that fairly recently there was an employee change and they are using employees with criminal records. I do believe in second chances and favor this move and commend them, but call it coincidence or a turnover in skilled and trained employees, the facts remained that what I ordered didn't meet my basic expectations of fit, finish, value and function. The QC did in fact slip. Now fast forward to this current knife and I'll be honest in that if it weren't for the really great sale of this knife, I would have not made the purchase. The knife I received, was in fact an almost perfect knife. The plunge line was perfect, the tip finish and grinds were 99/101 left to right which is as good as I can expect from a hand made knife grind and finish. This knife matched what I expected from them years ago and received. I truly hope it wasn't a fluke and that the QC issues have been seriously addressed and dealt with. on shipping, it was good, not as fast as in the past, but we also have a degraded and deteriorating USPS where the tracking clearly showed where the shipping lags occurred in this order. DLT in my experience is always the star of what I consider great customer service. They have been easy to order through, always willing to work with my request: some due to QC issues described, and they are always professional. I do hope if they continue to offer these great sales and discounts, particularly with Bark River and hopefully Bark River has fixed their QC issues, and can regain their respect that they once clearly deserved.
