Good dive shop, choose instructor carefully

Overall a good dive shop that also does repairs. A note of caution, there are a couple of instructors that should be avoided, see my experience below.

If you take instruction from this facility, make sure they teach you to use a dive computer. While not a PADI requirement that the instructor step through how to use a dive computer, it is essential and it's only covered in the student manual. Ask questions about it when covering it in the book and request a demonstration. If the instructor won't teach you the details of the dive computer, ask for another instructor.

My instructor, Greg, was great to start, but when on open water checkout dives refused to teach me use of the dive computer. He told me to "read the manual, you have a phone, look it up". I should have fired him and asked for another instructor prior to the open water dives.

If your instructor is overly critical and lacks the ability to give any praise or recognize your efforts, get another instructor. There are plenty of others that are more friendly and encouraging than the one I had. Greg's stoic, standoffish, know-it-all pissy attitude made scuba diving a waste of time, money, and effort for a long time for me. He was more interested in showing off his vast knowledge, expensive technical gear and experience than teaching and realizing this is an exciting time for a new diver. There's *his* way, and there's the wrong way. He's one of the instructors to avoid.

Lacking proper instruction on this vital diving tool seriously impacted my future dives and I need additional instruction before I will feel comfortable diving again. I will seek refresher instruction elsewhere before diving again.
