I enjoy the heck out of it

for starters, I'm a pretty big guy, 230 pounds. I bought a ranger x5 to ride with my kids (they're on one wheels). I absolutely love the thing. in 3 moths I've clocked about 80 miles on it just tooling around the neighborhood. Im mostly riding on sidewalks, dirt roads, the street and in grass. Its pretty quick, stable and goes reasonable anywhere (watch out for sugar sand). The only reason its not a 5 star, my remote had some issues 3 months in. To their absolute credit, They took care of it 100 percent very quickly and at no cost, but still, it was only 3 months old so that is a concern. I cant attest to the "out of warranty" service one might receive. This thing is legit and its fun to ride.

Backfire cares

Backfire has always come in with great customer service and even better boards. They just keep making awesome boards that are fun, safe, and reliable. And they always come through just because they care more than a lot of other companies (in my opinion). So I trust them a lot after almost 3 years.

I’ve purchased 2 boards with Backfire

I’ve purchased 2 boards with Backfire, one of which is an electronic board. The value is way beyond Boosted boards. It has become great fun with family at parks. A lot other people stopped and asked me where I got it. I have to say the design really catches people’s eyes.

Anyone considering purchasing from them who might be new to the world of electric skateboards and particularly those that might be considering purchasing from abroad (outside of the USA).

Who is this review for? Anyone considering purchasing from them who might be new to the world of electric skateboards and particularly those that might be considering purchasing from abroad (outside of the USA).

Why is this important? If you are buying a replacement component, you may get caught in an extremely frustrating and expensive Tech Support & Sales loop. You might think tech support and sales as a loop might not be in the best interest of the consumer and you would be right but it works really well for Backfire.

How does that work? They won’t disclose clear and complete upgrade paths for replacing components on your existing hardware and you have to contact Tech Support and then they have you. Welcome to the Tech Support & Sales loop.

Why is this bad? For each of the following steps in the loop you may have to incur the following: cost of part + international shipping (could be 78%+ of cost of part) + import duty and taxes (which can be considerably inflated due to high shipping costs) for example for a new 9 pin hub motor this cost me $189.00 + $5.75 (insurance) + $95.46 (shipping) = $290.21 (total). As a nice surprise £41 import duty & taxes charge.

What is the Tech Support & Sales loop?

You buy a replacement part for your board and discover that the part is for a new version of your board so you contact support.
They propose that you solve the issue by purchasing another new component. (you pay cost + shipping + duty)
The part arrives, you discover that there are no instructions and there is another incompatible set of parts, you contact support.
They propose that you solve the issue by purchasing another new component. (you might pay cost + shipping + duty)
You discover that there are no instructions for the two new components that are designed to work together and they are unsafe to ride as is, you contact support.
They propose that you solve the issue by purchasing another new component specifically designed to make the two new components that were designed for each other safe to use together. (you might pay cost + shipping + duty)

What did I do? I tried to dispute these shipping costs as all of these could have been minimized into a single shipment had my request for support had been responded to with a complete upgrade path outlining everything that needed to be purchased and how it can be assembled and used together. Failing to do this should have as a show of good faith resulted in comping the cost of the remainder of the upgrade which they failed to disclose when asked directly.

Where do I start?

I decided to go with BackfireUSA for my deck as Iam building a DIY e-board. I've heard many positive things about the company. I saw online they have a used deck selection for $59.99 over the new for $79.99. Boy did I mess up over $20. The deck arrived without a box or packaging. It was just cardboard folded over and cheaply wrapped in plastic wrap. I did not feel good about opening it.

Upon opening, I immediately notice how bad of shape it's actually in.
Not only is the deck expired, the layers of wood are actually separating and someone tried to glue or epoxy the separations all the way around the edge. I immediately sent an email to BackfireUSA. Now I did receive a quick reply by a guy named Jerry. After sending him the photos of the damage, his response was "It was probably from the previous owner before they turned it in." He was courteous and gave me a refund for the deck. He told me they are out of the new decks for $79.99. I thought that was it. So I figured I would at least try and fix the deck. After 45 min of sanding off the glue, I then notice that the wood is not only separating but it is also completely warped and uneven.

I mean I understand things happen, but this is just unacceptable and should not of been sent out. How the person packing my order did not notice the glue all the way around the edge is a mystery. Just an overall bummer of a deal. Here I thought I would get a nice used deck to start my first build off, instead I receive someones totaled deck.

Now this is my experience and obviously not everyone's but still, the company and it's employees should be held accountable and to a higher standard. I would of been happy to send back the deck and pay a little more money for a NEW current G2 or Zealot deck etc. Instead I was just issued a $59.99 refund and told they are out of those decks for a few weeks...

I was really excited to get into e-boarding and make this into a new hobby. Instead the company has left me with a horrible feeling and questioning is this actually for me...

No support for older model

I have an older model board from them G2S that still runs very smooth but 6 months after I bought it G3 appeared and wheels for the G2S are nowhere to be found. It’s not cool to pay so much for a board and not be able to replace the wheels when they break. Beware not to buy when they announce a new type of board because they’ll instantly discontinue support for the old one. Not cool!

Secret import taxes on backfire g3

I bought 2 backfire g3, had asked for them to be shipped from Germany to UK but without my consent they shipped them from the USA and had to pay an extra £72 per board import taxes, this is not stated clearly on there site, gave me some rubbish about not being able to import from Germany because of brexit but the shredlights came from Germany with no import taxes ? My advice is to add an extra £100 to the cost of your board and maybe you'll have seconds thoughts about buying a backfire board in the 1st place, buy a lyacaon swift or meepo3 etc a disgruntled backfire owner UPDATE: I would give 5 stars to the board for the price and they have contacted me saying they will refund the import duty when they recieve the import invoices, if this happens then I can say there customer service is 5 stars to and will change to my rating accordingly to 5 stars and maybe they could mention the import duty etc on there site for uk customers FINAL UPDATE: there customer services sent a reply 1st thing Monday with import tax refund, no questions asked once receipts were seen, there customer service is 2nd to none, sorted quickly and without fuss, now a very happy backfire g3 owner
