Be Warned!

Be Warned!
I have been a member of AIG with a Superior Accident Protection Plan since 1999, I never made a claim until this year when I had an updated policy come through which showed I could claim for a broken collar bone (which wasn't covered before) so as I broke a collar bone a number of years previously I tried claiming but was denied as too much time had passed. Then I saw that the policy was valid only upto 75 years of age and I am now 76, so I asked for it to be stopped and refund for over payments be made. I have just received notification from them that the policy has been cancelled and the age limit is now 80 so I am not entitled to any refund. It seems AIG moves the goal posts when it suits them and you'll be lucky to get paid anything from them. Be warned, in my opinion they are untrustworthy.

I am writing to you in regard to the claim you submitted for the damage sustained to your rental vehicle on the 27th of March 2025.

I regret to inform you that on this occasion the loss is not covered under the policy terms and conditions,

I have quoted below the following provision from the policy wordings for ease of reference:

Your Policy Explained

What is Excess Reimbursement Insurance?

Most car Rental Agreements apply an insurance Excess, which is the amount You are responsible for paying if the Rental Vehicle suffers any Damage (for example bumps and scratches). This Excess Reimbursement Insurance is designed to repay You up to the amount of any Excess You are charged by the Car Rental Company under the terms of the Rental Agreement. The Policy also provides cover for the cost of repair of Damage to the windows, tyres, wheels, headlights, undercarriage, and roof of the Rental Vehicle if cover is not provided for these under the collision damage waiver cover provided by the Car Rental Company.

Having the vehicle repaired at a private garage voids the policy terms and conditions. As a result, the excess amount charged by the rental company does not apply to this situation.

I am sorry that my conclusion in this matter could not be more favorable however I trust you understand my findings.

Please do not hesitate to contact us should you need to discuss the matter further.

Sincerely,

Bernadette Romero

Dont wait for prompt attention

I was never clear why my now deceased mum took out accident cover with AIG when she was in her late 70s but when she did pass away she had overpaid by £5.24. After notifying them back in November and completing all forms and after several chasing I finally received the overpayment in May - with a letter assuring me of their 'prompt attention'. A token amount but a wholly unsatisfactory experience and I remain convinced that my mum would not have simply signed up with the company, but will never know. Yet another example of a huge powerful company whose motivation is profit not people

Have just noticed an unnotified…

Have just noticed an unnotified increase on the Direct Debit since last October [2024]. It's 10% higher than it was to September.

In other years they have always sent a clear letter. Information was sent about what the continuing cover entails back in June, but no mention of an increase. I read it and kept the information carefully.

I am supposed to be on the sort of policy that does NOT increase automatically. It was tied to my age at the time of taking it out nearly 25 years ago.

I reckon they are in breach of the Direct Debit guarantee. Have sent them an email.....will see how long they take to do more than just send "Thank you for contacting AIG, this email is confirmation of receipt and one of our customer service representatives will respond within the next 10 working days.

Unfortunately we are experiencing extremely high levels of correspondence at this time. We assure you this is certainly not the level of service that we would normally provide."

Update: Despite cancelling on 25th February, they have helped themselves to money in March. I was promised that if this happened, it would be refunded within 28 days automatically.

We'll see how automatic it turns out to be.

Updated 01.04.25: they took till 28th March.

Please avoid this company

Please avoid this company. Policies are simply a scam. Taking people's hard earned cash for decades, then using any excuse to avoid paying out when needed. The staff are downright rude, dismissive and lack empathy. No idea how they sleep at night.

This company insures vehicles for…

This company insures vehicles for amazon. One of there insured vehicles hit my partners car causing light damage. Getting them to admit liability took months even with CCTV evidence. After they admitted liability the car was repaird very easily and has been for over a year. We went to sell the vehicle last week and discovered that AIG have put the vehicle down as a catogory S write off. They paid us £1700 to fix it and after the claim was settled they listed the car on MIAFTR. Now these horrible disgusting people aren't admitting that they have done this and we will need to take them back to court.

Genuinely awful travel insurance cover

Genuinely awful travel insurance cover, backed up with non existent and obstructive customer service. Avoid at all costs.

Took out an annual Gold Level cover with AIG, thinking that an established insurer would offer a more reliable service. Had my flight cancelled by EasyJet earlier this summer, which caused general chaos and left us significantly out of pocket. Naturally called AIG to register the claim and ask what I might be able to recoup. Their staff explained that I would be eligible for some basic delay cover (£50 for every 12 hours delayed between my original flight time and when I eventually travelled), and I submitted my claim accordingly. After a torturous 'paper based' claim process, where staff sent me the wrong paperwork, I then had to wait weeks, only to then be told I was unable to claim any of my costs, because it was the airline cancelled the flight (as if that was news to me). I naturally sought clarification on this and asked for it to be reviewed, as it seemed absurd that we had our entire holiday ruined, only to find that our 'Gold Level' insurance gave us no cover whatsoever. I am just relieved that we persevered with our holiday, as had we given up and decided not to travel, we would have lost thousands in accommodation costs that AIG would undoubtedly have also refused to cover. Over and above the frustration of the claim, the customer service from AIG is woeful and good luck to anyone expecting any level of clarity from them. I appreciate that it may be commonplace for people to complain after a (modest £290) claim is refused - but felt compelled to leave this review to warn others to avoid this insurer. I no longer have confidence in my policy and will be taking out another policy before I next travel. Awful experience with a consistently lousy company.
