We are returning clients of Gate 1…
We are returning clients of Gate 1 having done the Danube River cruise with them which was lovely!
This time we booked the "12 Day Classic Greece with 4 Day Iconic Aegean Cruise". We are very disappointed with the Cruise of the Greek Islands portion of the trip.
Here are the reasons why:
Gate 1 has aligned with a three star rated cruise liner. The cabins were small. We were assigned to two rooms in the front of the ship which were very loud in terms of the sounds of the waves and the engine noise. We had to request to be moved which was not an easy process with the front desk not cooperating.
There were very strict rules surrounding taking drinks and beverages out of the dining area. We had to buy drinks and beverages if we needed to have some outside of the meal hours, from individual stalls on the decks or the other levels. Even ice cream was on purchase basis.
The most concerning part was that the excursions to the islands were NOT included and were exorbitantly priced. We had called Gate 1 prior to our departure about the excursions on the cruise and were told that everything was included. The cruise part of the itinerary was also not clear about the excursions and it was made to seem as if the cruise excursions/activities were inclusive of the price. We were shocked when the tour director of Gate 1 of the cruise gave us a form to select and pay if we wanted to go on excursions. He also warned us that the cruise liner was three star rated and not to expect a lot.
Also, the way that the stops were planned by the Cruise liner company were a sheer waste of our time. For example Mykonos, Santorini stops were just for about 4-5 hours including disembarkation process and there was so much to experience and enjoy there and this kind of time slot was just not enough. But the Rhodes island was a full day stop and the Crete stop was longer than Santorini, even though there was nothing much to do there. Once on the cruise liner one either took an excursion to maximize the time or because the excursions were very pricey do what you could on your own or else just stay on the ship.
Disembarkation was also prioritized for the people who took the excursions. The ones who did not were issued tickets and had to wait upto 1.5 hours, to be taken to the shore.
We regretted taking the cruise part of the tour. It was a waste of our precious vacation time as well as an added expense to us with the heavily priced excursions.
Gate 1 should respond to us about why we were mislead about the excursions of the cruise and the overall cruise ship rules and expectations. Very disappointed!
